Mainly the eastern side as you say. Take a look at some of the webcams from the Three Valleys - conditions are pants at the moment.

I can't see as there is too much snow on the lens
Saulire is 2700m ASL. Try taking a look at La Croisette. I'll not be wasting my money on a beano yet.
Yes, I agree, conditions have been pretty poor in France, with rock-hard pistes causing lots of injuries. I was looking at the Chatel forecast page though and they are optimistic of a decent dump over the next couple of days. No skiing for me this winter anyway so I will try not to torment myself looking at the snow forecasts!
Amazing pics coming out of Austria.

Great thread Colin. I've seen some vide clips of 10 feet plus of snow in a single fall and they've had at least 3 of those.
Not surprisingly avalanche warnings are in place - They've had mega falls.
This pic is one example - taken yesterday apparently.
You can get an idea of the depth of that quite easily. That's over 10 feet of snow.

Amazing. I went there two years ago when they were in the grips of a freezing cold spell . Highs of -5c and a foot of snow even in Salzburg and temps as low as -20c. However this week is off the scale in terms of snowfall especially above 650m. Saalbach is at 1000m so comfortably above the snow line at the moment.
Carol Kirkwood showing pics of Athens with several inches of snow, even down to beach level. Also reporting -23C overnight in N Greece
Looking nice in Salzburg this morning (live streaming cam)

It would be great if just once the UK could join in the monster snowfalls that eastern and southern Europe have been subjected to in recent years.
Has the UK ever received a snowfall like the pictures above? Many places in SE Europe get the perfect combination of cold and moisture which we rarely do.
No, but I mean large for us. Like 15-20cm would be nice!
Meanwhile, the northern Alps are set to be buried yet again:
4 successive back-to-back frontal passages will dump huge amounts of fresh snow in the northern Alps in the next 4 days. Expect particularly heavy snowfall on Sunday and Monday, with over 1 m of new snow in some places! ICON-EU guidance.
