LTA = 1981-2010 average for the month, season or year in question at that particular station.

We are only five days into this month and yet, there has already been more rain at both of those stations during this month than what there was during the whole of April.

In addition to that, there has also already been more rain at Edinburgh Gogarbank during this month than what there was during whole of May.

At the moment though, the models are uncertain about how uncertain the outlook is likely to be during the foreseeable future. Some models are suggesting an unsettled outlook with quite a bit of rain coming up in the middle part of next week in particular, but other models are suggesting a much more settled outlook which would result in us having to wait for quite a while before we get our next recorded rainfall.

A sharp and very brief (about 1 minute) shower yesterday delivered 0.25mm according to one local PWS and nothing registered on another, bringing the total for the month to date to 0.5mm.

The current shortage of rainfall was raised in a letter to The Times last Saturday (30th May) which read:

"Sir, I am disappointed to see a lack of coverage of the drought creeping up on us. Unlike flooding, drought is slow and invisible until its impacts are clear, and then it’s too late and it becomes a crisis. Agriculture is first to feel the effects. A farmer in Cheshire reports 2mm of rain in the past ten weeks and his barley crop is dying. Fruit and vegetables in the east and southeast are OK for now because they are mostly irrigated. But irrigation started early this year and farmers may run out of water as reservoirs empty out and rivers run dry. All this has an impact on local food supplies, prices and rural livelihoods. We are getting better at tackling floods; we need to tackle drought with the same vigour.

This is so true with so little rain since the end of March. The worst early drought I can remember. Here in Essex we were lucky yesterday and caught a couple of showers but only 3mm and that was the first rain for 5 weeks! Today looked promising for the S.E up till 7.00 am but now the slow moving frontal rain is veering East and moving out into the N.Sea before it gets here by the look of things.

The rain forecast for today in this part of Dorset seems to be fizzling out as it approaches. I'm assuming now that it will be to all intents another dry day though with an unpleasant chilly drying NW wind.

Some slightly heavier rain yesterday afternoon but it had only bumped the total for June up to 2mm (Blackbushe airport weather station) or just 1.4mm going by Farnborough Met Office station.

That yearly total is quite a contrast to here. For this location it is currently at 186mm.

June’s total to date is 14.9mm (which is a little higher than than would be expected, but nothing notable).

Here it will be above 50mm by the end of today most likely which is quite a turn around.

Today is a classic orographic event with light rain intensifying as it hits the moors on gusty NE wind.
Radar is no use at all as upwind looks like it will ease but more quite heavy stuff develops in situ.

670mm so far this year in Kent despite a record breaking dry Spring. Are you sure that is right?

Around 330mm here for the year, and that was with a record breaking 205mm in February.

28mm for June now.

I'm guessing that Wednesdays onward feature will finally bring meaningful rain to this part of the world.

But not more easterlies even here.
