Given just how little in the way of rainfall which there is around the UK just now, I was wondering whether to start this thread or not as measuring rainfall is a complete waste of time in my books if the rain gauges never actually read anything other than 0.0 mm.

However, we may well see a little bit of rain towards the middle of the week as a cold front moves down from the north. Because of that, I believe that it is still a good idea to have this thread anyway, just in case anywhere does get any unexpected rainfall.

That can then be reported here, which is also the place to report any rainfall which occurs during this month, the first month of the meteorological summer.

Farnborough recorded a whopping 1.0mm of rain in May, but did get 45mm in April.

Nothing so far in June.

We've had another 5mm today bringing the total to 11mm for the month so far. Just looking at the radar there's some heavy stuff just to the east but it looks as though we might just miss out.

Parts of the South, the South East and Southern East Anglia are in danger of experiencing the biggest drought since 1976. There has been none today and the BBC forecast has withdrawn any weekend showers for here and showed a graphic for the jetstream moving North and leaving the South dry for all of next week. With the persistent Atlantic High predicted to return after that I can't see there being much rainfall in the above mentioned areas for some time.

I can see that with today's forecast of a few showers here (Today will start off cloudy with the occasional shower pushing in on a fresh to strong north-westerly breeze that builds through the day). Compared to Wednesday's forecast where showers or even longer outbreaks of rain for here were forecast for today. And then becoming warmer and drier next week?

Saturday Tomorrow (BBC South Today weather)

After a clear start tomorrow, cloud and then showers of rain will push in from the north through the day and is expected to continue into the evening and overnight. Another cool day with strong winds. Of course based on recent experience will it?

The last decentish rain came from a low over Northern France in May that brought a band of rain here. The rain this week has been no more than nuisance rain which soon evaporated in the brisk winds. A good drying day today for laundry and of course transpiration.

After 0.4mm on Wednesday, I caught a spell of heavy drizzle when I went out for a bike ride yesterday evening. Enough to dampen the dust (and make it stick to my legs nicely ) but only totalled another 0.6mm according to the stats I can find, making 1mm for the month, and 2mm since May 1.

Some parts further south did get more rain in April than here, I think the driest Spring period of all was centred on NE England

One heavyish shower at 4.50 am gave a refreshing 1mm here in S.Essex. The two longest dry periods in 12 years of records for April and May were both 2020.
