Not uncommon, and I really can't see the doomsday scenario ever happening (it'd be fascinating to watch, though - I understand the apocalyptic predictions are gross exaggerations and, whilst there would be Tsunami triggered, they'd be far less impactful.

Yes indeed. Still, it is one to watch.

It’s La Palma and a very low probability.

I wondered what had been happening at Agung (bar the Express trying to make mountains out of molehills)

https://www.volcanodiscovery.com/agung/news/65606/Agung-volcano-Bali-Indonesia-increasing-seismic-activity.html

Still lots of actvity below ground but nothing to show on the surface. A nightmare for authorities who have arranged evacuation - people will think it's all crying wolf, and start moving back (and by Murphy's Law, just in time for Agung to blow!)

Having just come back from Bali, the volcano seemed to be a bit of a taboo subject. We were around 70km away in Nusa Dua, and over there it seems to be life as normal. The only mention at all in the whole trip was the flight out from Perth mentioning Jetstar were watching the mountain very closely in case of eruption.
At least the Indonesian government are now doing updates in English, which means it easier to understand what they are saying. The mountain is still rumbling and if anything the earthquakes have increased. It maybe a matter of months before there is an eruption, a nightmare for authorities.
Bali is such a beautiful place, well worth a trip. Planning to go to Ubud next time which is more central.

I know, I keep awaiting my apocalyptic eruption but alas Mother Nature keeps on disappointing me.😏

At Agung? The seismic activity may have dropped in the last few days but in isolation that may not mean much. There is still steam being vented and some inflation.

AFAIK the status is still at the same level?

Thee is an interesting (translated) interview here from a couple of days ago http://ubudnowandthen.com/intv-mt-agung-volcanologist-devy-k-syahbana-241017/

May be better to use a local source

IIRC swarms can indicate magma on the move.

The most powerful volcano in Iceland, situated under Europe's largest glacier- geographically interesting; potentially physically interesting too, or are those just Top Trumps statistics?

Yes, this gorge at Gullfoss (and several miles downstream) is reckoned to have been carved out by a glacier burst in the space of a few days after an eruption under this icecap. The flow is estimated to be similar to that of the Amazon.

An eruption has begun on Agung volcano of Bali, Indonesia. This time it is larger than the initial phreatic eruption the other day;

Agung has been producing the largest seismic episode of the event so Far over the past 4 or 5 hours. The Indonesian authorities are expecting the largest and most powerful eruption in this episode so far in the coming hours. Questions remain how the energy will be released. The last eruption in the 1960's was months of ongoing relatively large eruptions lasting a year, the latest seismic increase is of concern. No one can ever be sure of a volcano of this nature what it's about to do, but it's in an extremely volatile phase at this moment.
