39.1 on the 19th July 2022. Same weather station as now, a Davis VP2 with fan system, and it was on a similarly breezy day.

You can see when the sea breeze kicked in (the temperature drops sharply, dewpoint rises) and when it was effectively turned off again in the evening!

Wow , prob won't beat that then. 3rd highest still very significant. 

The temperature is still going up in this area although it took quite a hit from the cloud. We're only half a degree up since 11am.

"The hottest place at midday is Cavendish in Suffolk at 35.8C

Some patches of cloud will probably cap the temperatures in southeast England at about 35C this afternoon.

The highest temperatures today look most likely in Norfolk or Suffolk this afternoon with temperatures perhaps going as high as 37C or even 38C.

Rhe chase is on then for beating the all-time June temperature record of 36.7C recorded yesterday at Merryfield, Somerset."

Maybe they base it on the amount of time above a certain temperature? E Anglia was relatively cooler yesterday and the heat looks like pushing through fairly quickly.

I'm sure that would be their reason, but with the likely hottest temperature of the whole spell in EA , they look a bit silly.

I've been wondering much the same given what the models were showing, 39C to 40C over us, for the past few days, for today

Yesterday, we stacked our fridge freezer with cold water and ice cubes and prepared to use our cars as very short term air-conditioned refuges. Being older with a heart condition tends to make one quite cautious. However, local roads were melting yesterday, including the A140, under much lower temperatures in strong sunlight. Driving out to get stuck in tar today seems a bit risky!

Indeed , it was a ridiculous decision not to include EA in the Red zone. 

Not the first time the Met Office have got it badly wrong.

Always a stall at this time, I wonder if there is a scientific reason for this. It usually lasts until 14:00 and then things creep up again.

Third day in a row over 36c, only 1990 has done that before. 

It has turned into a truly historic spell.

You know this heatwave is quite memorable when you class 33 C as getting cooler. 😅

Oh, almost forgot to mention, it didn't get any lower thsn 23.2 C at 4 am at my end. Made for rather uncomfortable broken nights sleep. Dreading tonight with the nearby nightclub being open until 3 am - unless I actually get lucky with a thundery downpour by then. 

BTW this is now the 12th date record set in 2026 and the fourth in a row in June, following five in a row in May.

Still creeping up here behind the cloud band. 33.1C now.
