Not accurate at all.

This is the worst storm here in a few years - notable for it's longevity as much as the wind strength, and we've got a fair few hours yet (early hours tomorrow) before gusts get down to 'just' 50mph.

We're 10-15 miles inland. The coast of NW England has had even stronger winds than here.

And the SW is even more affected.

Tens of thousands without power, extensive damage to properties, at least one death so far, countless events big and small cancelled, sports events postponed.

But because certain people - in areas that were never forecast to get the more severe impacts - haven't found themselves not in Kansas anymore, it's dismissed as a nothing storm.

It was predicted to be bad there but lots of reports from elsewhere are not seeing the high predicted gusts. That is not the same as saying it is not a severe storm where it is a severe storm! Nevertheless, my son-in-law has taken off from Bournemouth Airport this afternoon after expecting 60-70mph gusts and it was more like 30-40 mph.

Plus it isn't over yet. I just hadn't seen any forecasts saying for here, for example, that it would peak at 54mph gust at 6.00 am and then subside throughout the day and be 17mph right now with 27mph gusts. Maybe it is just the timing is different and it may well be intensifying later. We will see.

Just slightly amusing that the strongest wind gust recorded away from mountains was well outside of the red warning area. Berry head Devon on the south coast @ 96mph.

Strongest gust of the day here a few moments ago. The models were suggesting the strongest winds would occur this evening.

It doesn't seem quite as bad as forecast here and across Northern England in general, certainly windy but nothing out of the ordinary though appreciate other areas have been severely hit.

. E.g Met Office peak winds for here were forecast to be 60mph, 55mph max gust. Liverpool forecast 70mph, max gust 58mph.

Defiantly windier here this evening. I suspect more trees will come down as well due to unusual direction.

Another batch of +50mph from 2am as well. For 5 hours!

Tomorrow afternoon can't come soon enough, I really do dislike high winds and doubly so when it goes on for 36 hours or more (as it did in Bert, and as it will in Darragh).

Feels like it’s windier now than in the night. That’s not the case, though. It’s the wind direction change that’s making it feel so. It’s actually gusting less

A violent storm here IMO. A howling wind, neighbours fence gone. I would say this is the windiest part of the storm. F. 10 to 11 perhaps from the most damaging NW direction. Expecting power to go at some time soon. Hope not.

Well after last nights government alerts on our phones, what we ended up with here was nothing out of the ordinary  blowy but nothing more. A good barometer is wheely bins strewn across gardens, but not one in view. Even my one dodgy bit of fence didn’t bat an eyelid and I’d resigned myself to having to replace that next week

Mercifully not too bad here in E-Sussex. MetO had predicted gusts of around 60mph but theyre just over 35 according to the local station. It hasn't really felt bad, but a few trees down nonetheless, though I expect this is more to do with wind direction. The 100mph+ aforementioned in Devon sounds pretty terrifying.

Still wild here and been wild all day . Worst winds seemed to be mid afternoon when it switched around to NNW . Watched one huge tree come down then …but the snow still did more tree damage 2 weeks ago …and thankfully not much rain this time .

Yep as others have said.. wind is now blowing from a NNW direction and it sounds like it’s in the loft!

Horrible gusts and wails around the house. I feel like a ship in a storm .., steady as she goes!

Just another 12 hours of really strong winds.
