12Zs notching up risk for S ROI, SW and CS counties. Might be something or nothing but the new low looks deeper and further North than modelled yesterday.

A very distinct 'snow smell' out there, even though we got nothing here.

Fairly coming down now but only sticking on cars and wall tops etc. Still above freezing level which suggests the warmer air tracked further north than modelled, as Nsrobins noted above.

Bit of a streamer (albeit fragmented) setting up from the Irish Sea, the path running from a line roughly Southport to Derby.

18Z models seem to have reversed the trend of tracking the low further north. Quite. Abut further south on both GFS and Arpege, now barely skimming the south coast once you get out of Devon. Earlier optimism of seeing a chance of snow now vanished.

But before the weekend, the LP running across N France looks as if it may affect more of the south coast today. BBC weather suggesting it may reach West Sussex; Google has snow for Chichester throughout the morning. EDIT - MetO has sleet symbols

I'll be very surprised if it settles at low levels - perhaps a wet covering on the top of the Downs. EDIT - count me surprised😊

Most models showing PPN moving into NW England this evening. Raw output has both rain and snow/graupel for MBY depending on the model.

I'm at an event in Manchester this evening. I'd been planning on getting the train, but might go in my car.

We have a decent base of a cm of frozen graupel on all surfaces that have kept out of the sun, so hoping for snow.

I think some unexpected snow may be possible in the next hour or so near Nottingham.

Evap cooling is alot stronger than expected. If the band stays relatively stationary the western heavy parts could see some snow.

It doesn't feel like we are heading into a cold snap but there are two possible decent snow events forecast for the upcoming week. The first on Tuesday/Wednesday as an occluded front moves into the west into relatively cold air. I suspect western parts of England (especially pennine regions) and most of Scotland could see some snow out of this. And then a more uncertain one into the weekend as an immature low moves across the UK with some snow very likely on its northern edge.

Yes, I suspect several parts of the north, especially NW and Highland Scotland, with elevation will see some snow at various times over the next couple of weeks. The outlook has been quite consistent with that. Nothing severe, not lasting nor widespread, just a bit wintry at times.

Here for example, we could see a few snow/wintry showers later tomorrow. Hard to believe given how mild it is currently.

Quite a few of the 06z ensemble suite show snow falling within the next 36 hours across many parts of Scotland (and high ground in the far north of England).

https://modeles16.meteociel.fr/modeles/gensp/run/gensprobuk-26-36.png?6

Then again next weekend: https://modeles16.meteociel.fr/modeles/gensp/run/gensprobuk-26-180.png?6

The cold air will not be the issue tomorrow, more the lack of precipitation. It is more likely there would be more widespread snow in these areas (inland/high ground) on Tuesday night into Wednesday morning with a covering likely in places.

This is a bit off-topic but as it is time-limited so thought I’d pop it in here.

There is currently a live stream from NY state snowing someone driving through the snow covered roads and, being the 1st of December, I thought it looked rather nice: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=pNwBQNXpQDg

Its odd to post here when people are talking about record breaking xmas temperatures, but before then we have the possibility of some snow.

I'm eyeing up Sunday in particular. For western and northern parts there is a genuine risk of snow storms. Gale force winds and very heavy snow showers with some spots having some high accumulations; but with this being convective it will be dependent on the locality.

However in terms of lake effect potential this looks like it could be bad for a few spots. Places like London I'm sure will see nothing but the NW of Scotland could see truly dangerous and extreme conditions.

I'm tempted by a pre-Xmas walk in the Lakes with my family & dog on Sunday...
