There's no shortage of sunshine here in Edinburgh now, but that nagging wind from off the North Sea keeps on refusing to go away and as a result, the temperature remains stuck at around 17°C as at 1pm BST (12:00 UTC) this afternoon.

It had been forecast to warm up a bit here over the weekend, but that is only due to the fact that we are gradually being expected to see the air start to come from a slightly warmer source (i.e. from closer to the Mediterranean  rather than from somewhere like northern Scandinavia).

Even if that happens though, that air is still expected to be reaching us from off the North Sea, at least to begin with. With that, it might get warm enough inland for you to not to have to go very far inland to be starting to find it quite hot. That would be good news for Jerry in the south of Edinburgh as he might start to find it a lot warmer there as a result, but that would also increase the risks of east coast haar, especially here in the north of Edinburgh which would still continue to not feel all that warm.

In the end, I wouldn't be surprised in any way if that is where all of this ends up going but for now, it seems as that air is still coming from that cooler source up here.

Hot and sunny, 29.7c... and the largest rain drops I can remember seeing in the UK, the ground is now wet but nothing recorded as yet in the gauge.

4 mins later and temp down to 27.5c after that shower, still nothing recorded, it probably sounded worse given the amount of hostas in planters by my study door.

and a new Dewpoint record recorded at 22.5c

As at 4pm BST (15:00 UTC) this afternoon, a total of 9.83 hours of sunshine had been recorded for today so far at Edinburgh Gogarbank.

However, increasing amounts of easterly muck are now scudding across the sky and coming in from off the North Sea. This is very much spoiling that sunshine at times and it would appear that this is probably now likely to scupper our chances once again, of getting what might otherwise have been our sunniest day of this year so far after that bright and sunny start to the day.😡

As has been the case during most of this spring and summer up until now, the temperatures have also been refusing to rise thanks to incessant wind from off the North Sea and despite the fact that it was forecast to warm up a bit here over the course of this weekend.😡

As at 4pm BST (15:00 UTC) this afternoon, the temperature here in Edinburgh was around 17.14°C at Edinburgh Gogarbank but only 15°C at Edinburgh Airport (the temperature actually rose to 16°C there for a couple of hours which is slightly higher than the temperature which you have quoted for there as today's maximum although it has now since dropped back a bit there) and a rather pathetic 14.71°C at the botanic gardens in Edinburgh.

Yes John I think I actually reached 18 C here in Blackford. 28 C has been reached on the Moray Firth and Dumfries & Galloway. I see a few places south of the Border reached 31 C. We should be a bit warmer tomorrow hopefully if we lose the NE wind

A full day of sunshine here, with not even a cloud in the sky. It'll carry on being sunny for the rest of the day too, I'm sure, meaning it'll be the full 16 hours and 30 minutes of sunlight (or near enough - there are some hills in the distance to the west, but they only knock a few minutes off at most).

21.3C after a high of 23.1C earlier. My thoughts of 22-23C were more accurate than any of the forecasts!

(It'll be warmer tomorrow, unfortunately, as we'll lose the wind from the sea for part of the day. It's worth its weight in gold this time of year, as it's been a good 7C cooler than Heathrow!)

You could still be right though about Edinburgh being the coldest place as the highest hourly temperature reading at the botanic gardens was only 15.1°C and although the actual maximum temperature for there could be slightly higher than that, it is probably not going to be higher than that by very much given its closer proximity to the coast that the other stations in Edinburgh.

After a brief cloudier spell, the Sun has broken through once again here in Edinburgh.

It's a bit late for that now though, as the damage has already been done as regards to today not being able to go down as the sunniest day of this year.😡

Currently around 16°C here in Edinburgh as at 7pm BST (18:00 UTC) this evening after a maximum of 18.02°C at Edinburgh Gogarbank.

A maximum of 25.5C was recorded at the Met Office station here in Aboyne  today, following an overnight minimum of 1.4C to give a very respectable diurnal range of 24.1C.

Grass minimum temperature was -2C which is the 4th ground frost so far this June. In fact there have been 2 air frosts as well.

On each of these occasions the cloud has persisted until early evening then dispersed, so a low max has been followed by a clear and chilly night.
