There was the classic Greater Manchester 'snow hole' in evidence yesterday and overnight. Of course it reinvigorates further west so yuo managed a respaectable enough 6cm. More snow on the way on Saturday? Whatever. Not interested as it won't happen, now which way to the moaning thread.....

In fairness as much as people go on about the manchester "snow hole" - it really doesnt affect you as much as you think.  Most if not all other situations you get plenty of snow.  I lived in manchester for several years and my son still does, and has had plenty of snow in snowy setups where most other people get nothing.  Just in this case it didnt come off.   Theres much worse places to live than manchester for snow.  Infact there was stat that the Beeb/Met put up the other day that puts Manchester in line with most of Central and northern England for snow days.  Merseyside gets the same as London. 😞

The snow stayed on the grass/cars/some other surfaces, and when I took the dog it wasn't wet, it was decent and fairly dry.

Rather frustrating.

Yes, there was a heavy burst in Manchester city centre around 05:30 or so too, so I thought I'd check the doorbell camera at home and it was snowing here as well. When I got home at 06:50 there was about a cm or two.

I can get snow in NW situations of course but the 'snow hole' appears in easterly scenarios which tend to be the best overall for those most favoured by it. A NE snow situation in Leeds is likely on average to give more snow than a NW one in Bolton at equivalent altitude. And I know, I grew up in north Leeds at a similar altitude to where I am now and it was considerably snowier, even factoring in climate change since then. There are regular reports from north Leeds on here with snow depths that I rarely acheive.

We probably get more snow on average here at ~85m asl than places like Bolton at a higher altitude west of the Pennines. We do quite well for snow here really (though this winter has largely been poor until the past 24 hours). There aren’t many other places at my altitude in England I’d prefer living in from a snow perspective (probably parts of Durham and Northumberland).

Covering of hail followed by a snow shower. Most covering here for a long time! That’s how desperate it is

Snow still on the ground where sun did not shine and around 3cm patches.  Been a amazing sight to see blizzards conditions early this morning with NE gales, that was a thing I used to see a lot in the 80;s.  Really hope next winter to deliver it in a correct season.  2 snow events here this month is great to remember.

Despite the strong March sunshine , we still have good snow cover and the landscape still looks very wintry. Of course some melt but it is so deep that it hasn't had a significant effect away from really exposed areas of pavement etc.

We have still most of the cover cover from Monday night’s fall (albeit less depth now). Impressive for March.

Typical many are seeing more snow now than the whole winter in spring and spring is only 10 days old. Many have seen their first snowfall this winter as well!?

Rain just started to turn to sleet with large flakes mixed in due to the intensity of precipitation picking up here in Okehampton - I anticipate this as snow over Dartmoor if anyone can confirm?

Temp 2.5c and stable.

Well I never - temperature dropped to 1.9c and we have huge wet snowflakes falling here in Okehampton (must be some evaporate cooling as intensity of precipitation pepped up) but not settling anywhere!

Yes, it’s our first snow and quite nice too as it’s fallen for a fairly long spell.  Although most thawed quickly in yesterday’s sunshine but at least we haven’t been left with a mess of grey slush.

Yes since Nov 21 which was not winter as well.  Year 22 is very nasty year for snow less winters on each side of the year followed by very cloudy summer bar August was the best one and energy prices.  Hope 23 deliver better sunnier summer and snow chances in Nov or Dec.

Unexpected top up of about an inch of additional snow overnight.  Still plenty of cover from Tuesday's dumping too.

A few flakes. What is hierarchically lower than a flurry?
