I believe June and December are the two months that have seen the least amount of warming in the CET series.

That may be so over the last 30 to 40 years Alvin but if you look at the last 10 years , both seem to be making up for lost time ..
December is a bit of an odd one as we had many very mild ones in the 1970s and 80s and then for some reason a complete dearth in the 1990s and 2000s which also brought many sub 4C examples . And of course we had 3 cold ones from 2008 to the legendary 2010.
Since 2010 though Dec has been very mild indeed .
Meanwhile we see the opposite for the other end of winter ie Feb and March had alot of amazingly warm editions in the 1990s and early 2000s but have calmed down somewhat since and managed some colder editions too .

Apparently there is quite a fall in SSTs off the Kent Coast at 8.6 C, some 2 C cooler than average but the same as on this day last year  . . . https://seatemperatures.net/europe/united-kingdom/folkestone/

SS not over til the fat lady sings...
I reckon this year will go to the wire.
It does look more or less nailed on to be coldest Dec since 2010 at the very least unless we get a crazy festive warm up (which is something I would never rule out tbh!)
22 could potentially go down as one of the great weather years.
Lovely spring
Amazing summer
Prolonged drought
Mild autumn bringing drought relief to most
Then a nice seasonal December to finish .
1995 vibes ...

I did go all in on cold. Which seems to be happening however December is a long month. I had a terrible October which cost me dearly but I think I have led the competition since the spring so be interesting to see if my lead run has been one of the longest. And this is the first full year I have competed

Only a week into the month but my 5.6c isn't looking good and will look worse by mid month! 🙄

I was a little surprised to find I was so far down the spread of estimates for this month, though I did decide to play the 'bold' card in case the impressive signal for a lengthy -NAO pattern came through.

Since then I've spent more time feeling positive about my estimate than negative but it's hardly been smooth going, the low from by the Azores causing absolute havoc in the modelling, often with knock-on effects over the following days or even week.

That's probably the peak for now. Should get into the 2s maybe even 1s but its pretty much impossible to predict what happens the 2nd half of December atm.

Agree. But who would have thought deep into autumn that there was such an unlikely threat to the 'nailed on' warmest CET year on record? MetO giving up to 70% odds on temperatures below 4°C below normal. Still think we'll snatch it, but quite interesting that it has come about as it has.

It is a remarkable flip from exceptionally mild to very cold. the biggest gap between November and December cet has to be on.

1978 will be in contention for that title. A very mild autumn followed by a notoriously severe winter

Sadly with all the strikes and the state the country is in the similarities don't end there !
