JMM now firm favourite

We’ve had no snow at all here but frost every morning that’s never really thawed for the past week. It’s currently -7c, the lowest so far and we may get another ice day!  Totally blown my chances of going up a bit!  🙄

By my records, if December finished below 1.7°C, it will be the biggest ever drop from November to December.

Current record is 1981, with a November mean of 7.6°C dropping to 0.1°C in December.

We should easily be in the mid-0s by Sunday, followed by a sharp increase by Tuesday. I suspect those two days might add a whole degree to it.

Beyond it's anyone's guess, but I'd guess the month will most likely to finish in the 2s as of now.

Remarkably December up to this point has made a gameful effort at stopping us hitting warmest year on record.

The target at end of November was -3.5C below average for the rest of the year and that looked utterly unattainable. After half the month the target is now -2.3C. Like facing a RRR of 15 an over from the last 10 and blasting a few boundaries to get it down to 10 an over with 5 to go.

It’s about to disappear out of reach again though. By Tuesday or Wednesday the run rate should become unattainable and the record will be nailed on.

I've done some quick calculations on what would be needed for me to win the comp again and conceded it's essentially impossible..we would.more or less need every day from Monday to be close to the all time December record for daily CET!!
My disappointment is tempered with the joy of experiencing a rare well below average winter month. Who knows when we'll get another ?? It has certainly been an unrivalled spell in both intensity and duration of absolute cold since the famous Dec 2010. Mar 2013 and end of Feb/start of Mar 2018 are the only periods I can think of which are arguably comparable in relative terms

Was going to post earlier today that I'm expecting the final December CET to start with 2 but based on the GFS 6z that might be too high!
