There were 7 competition entries above 12c but none of these were by anyone close to the top of the table.

SSWD's prediction of 11.8c will take him into a close second with only 0.64c between the top 4 at the end of Oct.

Provisional leaderboard:

Your 12c wasn't bad considering you submitted it on 17 September

My title defence remains intact then
I'm traditionally no good at Decembers though which I only got away with last year by playing it safe when leading from the front so still a long way to go!

Annual record target now +0.19C. Within a week we’ll be looking at negative anomalies for rest of year to hit the record. Getting close to being nailed on now

So far locally, 4 days at 20+, 9 at 19+ and 20 days of 18+.

Beautiful day at Weymouth today, with folks swimming and the midweek half-term town turned golden summer. Came home to register above 20C again.

What a glorious month.

A remarkable month in a remarkable year.  You’d generally expect October to get markedly colder as it progresses but it’s hanging on in there.  I have to wonder whether we’re in for a mild winter, or if sub zero will hit suddenly.  Mild would help us all with fuel bills!

I’m hoping for mild and dry, as the building of our granny annex starts on Monday for an estimated three months.  I was concerned we’d lose work days due to winter weather but our builder says, in recent years, he’s lost more days due to the weather during summer than winter.

You're up dizzyingly early Caz!

You are quite right about the above. Ordinarily I would be scanning the charts for frost, fog, anything remotely seasonally atmospheric from the start of November. But this year mild and dry will be best for all.

We find our house gets colder after windy, rainy mild days than sunny, cold ones, even at night. I assume it's all the water being evaporated off of the house which, even with insulation the the cavity, in vast quantities might cool us down.

But so far we've had just 3 x 1 hour heatings on; and we've had a rebate just from a few simple tricks, reducing our elevctricity by more than half. Sorry it's OT but it might be useful:

-turn off kettle as soon as it bubbles

-reduce microwave meals

-only run whashing machine or dishwasher full

-continue to hang out washing on the line

Sorry all- will stay back on t now.

21.3C was the max yesterday, some way off the date record of 23.6C. Today's record is 20.6C so could be close.

Tomorrow looks guaranteed to smash the date record, with 22C forecast in London against the date record of 20.5C

No change since 25th, that looks wrong. The other sources are up by at least 0.2C in 2 days.

HadCET site only has daily data to 25th, which had an average of 12.416 for the 25 days.

Just in case, checked the daily for max and min and again, only to 25th.

Yet in all 3 cases the mean is given.

Needed +  .035 ish for the 27 days to round to 12.5, or +.945 each of the previous 2 days so quite high daily temps. This is because we are so late in the month to lift things.
