Looking outside it seems to be a fast developing situation. Very gusty SSE (F4 to 6) winds and looking at the radar some thundery activity over the Channel Islands which appeared only recently. Feeling warm too and 23C earlier.

Several spells of intense rainfall between 5 and 6, no thunder but a very humid feel to the weather.

An intense squall has just gone through with lightning flashes and long rolls of thunder echoing round the mountains!

Looks like Oxford to London could be in line for some fun and games later today.

After last night's underwhelming 0.6 mm, it looks like a higher chance of thundery stuff for my back yard late tonight. Failing that, Friday looks like being good for the lawn.

Tricky one this evening but I’ve seen enough to tickle my interest. The convection biased models are rapidly developing cells from 19.00hrs in a line Poole to Jersey which develop and move NNE. Given the backing surface flow as pressure falls across the Brest Peninsula some organised or even supercell structure is possible although the bases will be relatively high (at first).

Still nothing of note towards Normandy where I expect things to fire up.

8pm. It begins with some explosive convection over Jersey.
