I walked up our lane looking at the clear sunset at 4.15pm and the Moon was visible to the southeast. Can't think when I last saw it. It's too much to ask that we get an aurora - but you might spot a meteor trail later in spite of the moonlight. ๐Ÿ˜

Will we get lucky tonight?
"For the fifth day in a row, sunspot AR3889 poses a threat for strong Earth-directed solar flares. The sunspot's delta-class magnetic field is unstable and harbors energy for significant explosions. NOAA forecasters estimate a 25% chance of X-flares on Nov. 12th."

Am I the only one who gets fed up with all these media terms like "supermoon" and "blood moon" etc? It's quite annoying to listen to after a bit.

I saw a Geminid last night, it was a nice little streaker moving from the SE to the NW, between 9pm and 9:30pm, and it's only just starting! I consider that very lucky as the peak isn't for another ten or so days.

"A CME was supposed to narrowly miss Earth today. Instead, it delivered a direct hit. NOAA's DSCOVR spacecraft recorded the impact on Dec. 17th (0519 UT). Conditions appear favorable for G1 to G2-class geomagnetic storms in the hours ahead." Not staggering! Weak but interesting.
