A pattern of wintry showers persisting across the far north, elsewhere seeing mostly fine weather, widespread frosts, fog, and icy patches. Eastern parts seeing the most hazardous conditions, with further snow showers likely. The south and west will see the most of any organised rain and snow, but frontal systems are generally not expected to progress across the country.

High pressure to the north looks set to remain for at least the beginning of this period, before slowly declining, although confidence at this range is low. Mid February will continue to see cold, dry, and wintry weather, but towards the end of the month more unsettled weather may encroach from the Atlantic. These may bring rain and snow at times to the west and southwest. There is a continued risk of significant snowfall events on the boundary between colder and milder airmasses, with snow possible in many areas.

Easterly winds now in the forecast

Sounds like a frost-laden snooze-fest to me.

Easterlies? Yawn.

It says rain or snow for the south so I'm still not expecting much, especially as some of the charts posted in the M.O had only -4C 850's of over us down here despite -12C 850's over the north

I don't know about that. There is clear mention of fronts stalling as they approach from the South West and that could mean heavy snow for some. If you're in the right place, of course and if it materialises.

That's over half a month away so hardly nailed on.

In the meantime, I'm narked because the snow tomorrow gets agonisingly close to us before sodding off (giving the north Midlands yet another dumping in the process), Sunday's possible better re-run has been canned, whilst Tuesday brings rain and sleet, which extends into Wednesday.

Wrong thread for moaning I know, but when several in here are dancing a jig of joy about the Met Office outlook and I just have rain followed by cold and dry, I'm not going to be a happy bunny.

-4c 850s are fine if it’s an active frontal trough and, for you, the surface wind doesn’t pull too much low-level air from the sea into the mix.

Yeah, fair enough. Personally, years of snowless winters have lowered my expectations to the extent that even an outside chance of snow keeps me happy. However, I'm not sure that many are actually going to see much snow over the next couple of days looking at the fax charts

The 528 dam line stays a long way North over the coming days so my tuppence worth is you won't be the only one who misses out on the snow and I have a feeling that the North Midlands may be included in this.

That's no bad thing Marcus. Firstly it'll allow saturated/flooded areas to dry out, secondly it'll allow general drying of the ground ahead of what may be to come.

I’m a big fan of the the long range Bbc one forecast at the end of their programming, and Stav’s are no exception at the moment.  I feel far more optimistic at the forthcoming pattern change with a scandi high, when he goes into a jet stream forecast and how it’s change can cause the formation of the scandi high that we’ll need to bring about the easterly.

i’m expecting more roller coaster action from the models, but hoping more from Stav on the forecast of where the jet streams going.

The current track of the low pressure systems need to modify south, I’m hopeful!

Fawksie being a bit non committal on any snow risk.
‘turning milder’ Nothing suggestive of pattern change or deep cold. Vague graphics for the snow ‘event’ for Tuesday. Was different to Stavs prediction/graphics.

To be fair, Stav only said it was something to watch, not at all a certainty.
