I suspect 2007, but didn't have a WS with a rain guage then. The nearest I can remember was in late Feb/early March 2005, when there were 14 days in a row with sopping wet snowfall... again, the North Sea helped out there.

What's impressive is that the lawn in the back garden is still firm underfoot despite all the rain!

It's "lake effect" rain that's kept things going, same principle as the much longed-for snow in the winter but a bit warmer!

85mm of rain so far this month, FWIW.

Yes, the easterly winds the last few days had me saying to myself, if only it was January lol

I'm on 92mm Tim so it must've rained here today?

I've been working in Castleford and we just had the one shower today.

Yes it did quite a bit this afternoon which was surprising. 2.5mm further here so I am on 91.5mm.

11.0 mm so far today (since 12 am) as another spell of moderate rain just passed over us. But, yeah, we'll never get to see this kind of set up in deep winter. Probably would be seeing about 5 inch of snow cover by now . . . or it'll just be cold rain.

128mm here in Essex so far. Three weeks ago it was a drought ridden dust bowl. Unprecedented for here. That's easily 20% of an average year's rainfall in two weeks!

Extreme weather: October downpour sees UK's wettest day on record

https://www.bbc.co.uk/news/science-environment-54561601

The main characteristic for October 3 was moderate but persistent rain, and it was very widespread," said Dr Mark McCarthy, from the Met Office.

The average was 31.7mm, not a lot, but happening everywhere.

While the previous record came during the very wet summer of 1986, the third wettest day across the UK was on 15 February this year with 27.2mm.

I remember pondering at the time on the volume of rain across the whole country and the Met Office answered that:

“Saturday 3 October was the wettest day for UK-wide rainfall since records began in 1891, Met Office researchers have said.
The downpour followed in the wake of Storm Alex and saw an average of 31.7mm (1.24ins) of rain across the entire UK.
The deluge was enough to exceed the capacity of Loch Ness - the largest lake in the UK by volume - the researchers added.

Monster rainfall indeed!

LTA = 1981-2010 average for the month, season or year in question at that particular station.

There has now been more rain during this month at the botanic gardens in Edinburgh than the 1981-2010 October average for that particular station which means that regardless of what happens before the end of this month, this month will now go down as being wetter than average there in terms of the actual rainfall amounts.

Furthermore, the outlook is now more unsettled once again which means that Edinburgh Gogarbank should follow suit before too much longer.

Therefore, this is likely to end up being a very wet month here which is now making that relatively dry September which we had look completely out of place amongst that run of months from June onwards, where every other month has been wetter than average.

Steady rain here, not quite up to the yellow warning level, though I wouldn't want to be working outside in it and it could be heavier elsewhere.
