A few cells have been forming over the Forth and intensifying as they head due north towards towards Perth and Aviemore.
Now I can see towers building to the south of Edinburgh. I think Scotland will see the best storms tonight, especially to the north of Edinburgh

Areas to the north of Edinburgh include the city of Dundee where Edinburgh's only top flight football team (and the current Scottish Premiership leaders) are currently in action and although fans can't yet actually go to these matches due to COVID-19, it will still be interesting nevertheless to see whether or not, any of these storms approach (or even reach) that part of the world by the time that this game finishes.

Be nice if we get a pay back for all this cr*ppy heat and humidity. I was perfectly happy with my temps of 19-22c and cool nights before August came along

Seems like some years we get the worst of the heat and high overnight temps and the Midlands North hogs all the storms

Lightning visible over Fife from Edinburgh earlier. Storms have formed over Innerleithen and Lauder in the Borders and are drifting north. Lovely big Cumulonimbus clouds visible

Can any of our resident storm experts give a run down of what needs to ‘give‘ for this storms to start popping off.

Looking ahead, the predicted radar for MetOffice apps shows nothing really for the south at least for at least the next 18 hours.

Is it more of a now cast?

At the moment, I'm following the rain radar map whilst following that above mentioned football match, and I can see there are a lot of very bright echoes just to my SE. In addition to that, the sky is also getting darker to my east after some hazy sunshine which eventually broke through once we got rid of all of that easterly muck from off the North Sea.

I wonder what Brian can see. The South of me looks like something what’s to happen. But a lot of haze so can’t see much.

Just heard a loud rumble of thunder here in the north of Edinburgh where it has also started raining yet again.

I am in high-rise flats with east facing windows so that even if everything misses us to to our east in the end, I should still be able to get a good view from here, of any lightning strikes which get close enough to here.

Love the video thanks Kev. What on earth is happening at 53 seconds with that lower level cloud going against the flow?

Thanks Phil, no idea but it is odd.

Haven't yet seen any lightning, but there are still some rather faint but fairly frequent rumbles of thunder in the distance here.

Seeing some spectacular CB springing up to my north - catching the evening light perfectly. I'm trying to get a timelapse as the sun goes down - so hoping for lightning too. Have witnessed storms over Cambridge and St Albans so far - our house is on a ridge overlooking Reigate to the north - this appears to be a closer cell though with the radar suggesting NW London. Nicely placed to fill the frame - go baby go! :)
