I can see it from here; it's to my west but still lighting up the sky. As you say, constant sheet lighting. Amazing sight.

On my break at work. Can see frequent flickering over Manchester with some low rumbles. Looks like a phenomenal storm over that way!

Had a few rumbles/flashes from the showery stuff that wandered over us from 6am or so. Rain was moderate rather than anything more interesting. Temp wise it hasn't done anything to remove the heat and humidity and I imagine it'll feel quite soupy when the sun gets to work.

Love the video thanks Kev. What on earth is happening at 53 seconds with that lower level cloud going against the flow?

Lots of rumbling here for the past half an hour. Steady light rain has been falling for the last hour.

Feels lovely.

I didn't hear that but then, I was probably fast asleep at that time.

However, that does tie in nicely with the period when most of our overnight rain occurred according to the data from SEPA which shows that a total of 7.2 mm of rain fell in one single hour alone between 4am and 5am this morning at Edinburgh Gogarbank.

The north of Edinburgh, usually always missing out on snow events which occur not just within the rest of Scotland or the UK, but also within the rest of Edinburgh.

I was awake for the three Edinburgh rumbles that accompanied the rain. Last one preceded by a bright flash 15 seconds earlier so *does maths* 3 miles away.... But nothing on the lightning map 24 hour record... *Twilight Zone music*

Lighting started about midnight. First hour was mainly sheet lightning with little thunder.

After about 1am switched to fork lightning with lots of thunder, lasting until about 4am.

Not a good night's sleep, but probably the best display of sheet lightning I've seen. Epicentre seemd to be over Blackpool area

That storm was massive last night

looking at the images from 3am the canopy of the cells stretched from north wales up to southern scotland.  We only get those kinda of cells maybe once every other year

http://www.sat24.com/h-image.ashx?region=eu&time=202008110315&ir=True

The Cell had a very definitive line of torrential showers running parallel to the north west coast.

The Lightning was mostly out at sea, but due to the sheer size of the canopy, gave most of northern england sheet lightning, which felt alot closer than it was.

My son lives in Manchester and was approx 100 miles away from the epicentre of the activity around midnight, but was reporting strong frequency of lightning.  with no thunder.  Im on the wirral and was reporting the same with lightning but more distant rumbles occasionally.

That huge canopy was the reason everyone saw the lightning.

Credit to AROME that model absolutely nailed the forecast.  Down to the minute.

Some footage of the lightning seen from Manchester last night. The last clip has been used by the Express and the BBC North West Tonight will show it at 18:30 tonight (I believe).

The lightning here in south Cumbria went on for around five hours last night.  I first started watching it at 10pm and it was still going at 3am.  Took some screenshots of the radar and lightning detector as well as some video of the mostly silent, mostly sheet lightning.  I only saw a few cloud to ground strikes.  As I type, we're getting the first rumbles of the next storm!

Two sizeable shower cels in the S: NE Sussex and SW Hampshire, a short while ago on radar. Anything come of these?

Further afield. Some big storms are now developing around Paris and Normandy. They'll be heading our way later.

Sounds like I won't be getting much sleep tonight again. If the heat and humidity isn't enough to stop me nodding off then the lightning and thunderclaps surely will be!
