For the first time during this crisis. It appears we almost have consensus that the lockdown has well and truly broken down.

The seeds were sown by those briefings from HMG.

I fear we will be back to square one in three weeks.

Yes lots of shenanigans here locally - even a party in the car park of care home opposite for residents - with staff handing out cakes to passers by. Many local residents had "tea" parties in their front gardens and welcoming visitors with not much sign of recommended social distancing.

The sounds of local revelry still going on now.

As you say it will be interesting to see what the effect will be in three weeks time.

Today we still acknowledged those still alive who gave our today. Most if not all won't be around the next time we acknowledge anything like this. 

I have taken a small crumb out of all the bad news, all the negativity that surrounds us for whatever reason.

It was good to have a day outside, still safe, a bit of positivity through all the gloom.

We had one in the road.

Odd affair - we  strictly maintained 2-Meter distance / household. We brought our own chairs and cups of tea.  A neighbour did some cakes that we went up and helped ourselves to them  one at a time -  we have to hope she isn't infected or  implemented  a strict hygiene regime once they were cooked.

I agree though that  in general  the wheels have come off the whole shooting match.   it's pretty well nailed on the infection rate is going to be headed north  again in 3 weeks time.  We will then be totally stuffed as the choice will be  a massive clamp down or watch the NHS go under and the death rate from Coronavirus and everything else that isn't being treated hit the stratosphere.

 

 

I'm of the opinion that it will come to the point of a strictly policed lock down with the army involved. It's looking inevitable at some point over the next 6-7 months. The NHS simply won't be left to sink.

A few socially distanced folk sitting out in their yards today on our street. I have noticed the crescent road adjoining ours have had a larger party which through the evening has seemingly got busier and less 'distanced'. From my rear window I can see about 15-20 adults certainly not 2m apart. Kids zooming about on bikes and scooters as well.

I wonder if they'll apply it to the dozens of jet-setting super-wealthy who arrive in the UK daily?

Or will money also buy them quarantine passes to circumvent what the plebs have to endure?

Went out to get the Friday Chinese takeaway for us earlier. Saw 3 separate gatherings on the estate (plus a few more outside on the way the way to the Chinese). Seemed on the face to be mostly adhering to social distancing, apart from kids I know aren't in the same household were playing together.

Took the dog for a last walk about an hour ago round the estate and the social distancing was just a vague memory, with household groups that had been separate a couple hours previous now all sat close together, the drink continuing to flow and music now louder. Some bellends were in union jack-themed clothing and idiotic flags were everywhere.

Couldn't help but whiff gammon (even with the younger families).

The biggest irony was these people had, alongside the nationalist emblems that they were using to justify flicking two fingers at social distancing & other protective restrictions, posters supporting the NHS and rainbows. This country is so cretinous.

Well I suppose people have different accounts of today. We saw it as a 'nice distraction', got to know some neighbours we never really talked to before today. All with keeping the 2m rule. In all I took a positive out of today.

As for the scum who didn't comply with today's rules still. I suspect they don't recognise the rules every day in truth.

Similar with us. It was a bit torturous listening to some of the rubbish that some were coming out with, mostly defending the Government but not as political as I had feared. I played Glen Miller music and one of our neighbours set up with 40's favourites which was good. Ended up with their son playing "modern" music but that was fair enough.The social distancing started off well but then gradually the gatherings got condensed to a couple of houses with the "drinkers" and as that started getting nearer 1 metre than two I called it a day.

I couldn't believe the scenes in my quiet road with clusters of neighbours all mingling til way after 7pm with their kids screaming and whizzing about on their bikes.

A true debacle of a day IMO that could have easily and respectably been toned down and still acknowledged.

Except the R value isn't 4 or 5, so your prediction fails.

Yes, people getting too close increases the risk but for your dire forecast to be close we would have to see today's worst case scenes playing out everywhere and every day. I don't think that's where we are yet. Round here everyone is still following the rules and keeping more or less two metres apart, even on the viallage green this morning.

As for people being simple, there have been enough examples over the last 7-8 weeks. It shouldn't be a surprise any longer: there are some muppets who will always choose to misbehave and be antisocial.

A lot of them see Brexit as Victory over Europe. This is disturbingly similar to the US culture wars, where Patriotism is conflated with superiority and society is divided into "good" citizens and "liberal traitors"
