Hardly a washout as the rain fell on just two days the 17th and 18th up until today and very sunny in between.

I implied that one could which given the melodrama that is so often prevalent amongst TWO posters is fair enough. I certainly didn't say it had been though 😉

By the way there has been 4 days this April  with 1mm or more of rain down here and we still have two more to go. We also had rain on another day but it was drizzly rubbish that didn't amount to much.

We had 15.3mm from April 1st-27th (15.0mm of this was on 17th/18th) so the total has more than doubled to 31.8mm, not much below average despite so many dry and sunny days.

I knew if I posted that we would get more! The daily total was 19.5mm in the end, so 34.8 month to date.

Surely the melodrama is to refer to the sunniest April on record as a 'washout', and that record established by the 28th too, still a bit of time to add to the total. Even if the south ends up with 4 or 5 days with significant rainfall, and some of that overnight, the abiding memory is going to be of frustration at not being able to use the prolonged spells of fine weather to get out and about.

Melodrama is in general not referencing anything specific i've noted lately, but it is something that is reasonably common in here.

Anyway we are now approaching 50mm for the month as the rain continues to fall :)

Since I last posted on the 18th (quoted above), we have had 9 days with no rain here, then yesterday it rained all day giving a total of 24.4mm for the month to date.  The LTA is 49.4mm so I doubt that we will reach that.

51mm after this afternoon's rain cleared. I reckon by this time tomorrow it will be into the 60's as overnight we're expecting more heavy rain, and then heavy showers tomorrow.

Number of Rain Days This Year48 (35.0% of LTA)45 (36.2% of LTA)

LTA = 1981-2010 average for the month, season or year in question at that particular station.

Once again, the official observation day which ended at 10am this morning (09:00 UTC) was the wettest day of this month so far at both of those stations with as we have just entered the final official observation day of this month, even though neither of those totals were particularly high.

However, this is enough to mean that this month won't after all, be the driest month on record at either of those stations, or the driest April on record at Edinburgh Gogarbank.

Nevertheless, this month remains on course to be the driest April on record at the botanic gardens in Edinburgh and the second driest April on record at Edinburgh Gogarbank.

This month will only be the second driest April on record at Edinburgh Gogarbank though if the next 24 hours are completely dry there, and will only be the driest April on record at the botanic gardens in Edinburgh if a total of less than 0.4 mm of rain falls there over the course of the next 24 hours.

Whatever happens during the next 24 hours though, this month will go down as being substantially drier than average at both of those stations both in terms of the actual rainfall amounts, and in terms of the number of official rain days.
