Monthly total is 36.7mm which is 74% of the LTA for the month, so I was correct in my assessment in my previous post on the 29th.

Year total to end April is 309.6mm which is 141% of the LTA for that period.

So a dryer than average April compensating for a much wetter than average first three months.

What a crazy month. Just 1.1 mm in the first 16 days, 4% of the long-term average (LTA) to that point in the month.

Then, 19.5 mm in two days 17th-18th taking me to 67% of the LTA.

That was followed by a run of 9 bone-dry days, placing me at 45% of the LTA.

Yet the month has finished at 114% of the LTA, because final few days went and threw down 38.4 mm!

Sometimes, monthly stats hide the true nature of a month. I will remember it for its predominantly dry and very mild to quite warm conditions.

A substantially drier than average month at both of those stations both in terms of the actual rainfall amounts, and in terms of the number of official rain days.

In terms of the actual rainfall amounts, it wasn't quite our driest April on record at either of those stations, but we did come very close to that and it was only a little bit of rainfall on Wednesday 29 April in particular, which prevented that from actually happening in the end.

It was unofficially, the second driest April on record at Edinburgh Gogarbank according to the data from SEPA which I have reported here, but the official Met Office data is likely to confirm that this was probably not actually the case as the monthly total according to the official Met Office data is likely to be slightly higher than the monthly total from the SEPA data which is reported here.

Nevertheless, April 2020 is likely to officially go down as one of our top three driest Aprils on record at both of those stations, even if we go by the actual official Met Office data.

9.2mm here, with 7.2mm of that in the last few hours.
That is still the second driest month recorded here since starting in 2008.
March 2011 had only 7.8mm

A really unusual month with only 1mm in the first 17 days, 41mm in the last 3 days and only 6 rain days in total. April was memorable for warmth and sunshine, but yet also ended up significantly above average for rainfall!

Just 3.7mm for April

or 7.6% of normal

Driest every April and driest ever month on record 2000-2020

Nearest neighbour ( Geltsdale) had 3mm in August 1947,  but nothing close to 3.7mm for April

Just 9.2mm here continuing the stupidly dry start to the year. Even February was only wet because of the extra day.

Jan - 17.6mm (29%)

Feb - 61.4mm (120%)

March - 12.6mm (23%)

April - 9.2mm (17%)

Total - 101.0mm (45%)

Pointless being this dry so early in the year. I have obtained no advantage from it and can imagine the next four months seeing well above average rainfall to compensate. Then again maybe not as the last few days have seen what I would call "wet synoptics" yet hardly produced anything just rotten grey skies and drizzle. Seems as though it's becoming increasingly difficult to get any sort of weather at all.

The wettest day this spring has had just 3.2mm which is incredulous. Would rather it was chucking it down than this grey cold nothingness. The cold combined with the dry seems to be hampering any sort of spring growth. Trees still looking very bare
