GW has dedicated a lot of time and put in a lot of effort over the years.

I would fully understand and support him if he decides to call it a day.

As others have said, I'm sure someone would be willing to take it over if GW is struggling to find time.

We're now a week shy of May and we've not had the March results yet (not that I'm looking forward to tumbling down the table). This absolutely isn't a criticism of GW who, like you say, has put a huge amount into this comp over the years and we all need to thank him massively for one of the best regular features on TWO. But if it's too much on top of his normal life stuff, then perhaps its time to pass the baton.

This month's entry remains unread and it will soon be time to send in May's prediction. I'm sure everybody will understand if for whatever reason he feels he can't continue with this however I wish he would let us know what is happening with the competition. I see he has been active on other threads during April, but not on here.

GW still hasn’t opened my April entry PM either but I don’t think all is lost.  It could be that he’s busy with work and just needs some time to catch up.  I do hope he returns because it just won’t be the same without him and he’ll be sorely missed, not just for keeping track of the table but for his periodic projections.

Someone said his inbox was full at the beginning of April, so I suggest we start a May thread as usual and post our predictions to the thread.  Then at least we can carry on with this comp albeit in limited form but we will at least have a record of our predictions.

Come back GW!

That's a very good idea actually. No sense in clogging up his inbox with even more posts. I just wish I could post a revised prediction for April on this thread :)

It’s a little worrying that we’ve heard nothing from GW and I really am hoping it’s because he’s busy with work and not because he’s ill.  Those are the only reasons he’s been absent in the past.  I think if he’d just wanted to give up the CET threads, he’d have said so and I’m still hopeful he’ll carry on with them when he’s able.

It would be a shame for us not to carry on, even if in a scaled down form.  I wouldn’t want to take on the task of analising the entries because it’s a mammoth task and I don’t have the knowledge to do the temperature analysis and forecasts that GW does.  However, there’s nothing to stop us posting our predictions and declaring monthly winners.  It’s not quite the same but it’s the best I can suggest.

On a previous thread, GW posted the following for historical May CET:

1971-2000 11.3C (30 years)

1981-2010 11.7C (30 years)

1998-2017 12.1C (last 20 years)

I will start a May thread and copy this post to it.

I've updated the March CET thread with the competition's results to that date.

This may not be up to GW's standards,as its just from an Excel file, but is my best effort at keeping the competition ticking over.

If there are any issues with your own data let me know.

Also I do not know if the final March figure of 6.7 is correct or whether there is a two decimal place value.

Hi sorry everyone I have not got round to keeping things up to date this month. Too many other things to focus on. I will get everything up to date, including April results, this weekend. My inbox has plenty of space so you can post you predictions as usual.
