This debunks that particular urban myth.

I understand most airports round temps to the nearest whole number, which is a shame when we’re record watching.  In that case 37c could be anything between 36.6c and 37.4c.

If confirmed that is almost 3C higher than the old record (before yesterday's new one). Astonishing stuff.

Edit. Heathrow now 37.2C.

SO even if we don't beat the all-time record, 25 July 2019 is going to join the very exclusive club of 37C+ days as it's fourth member, along with 9 August 1911, 3 August 1990 and 10 August 2003.

Just had a light shower at Luton Airport. Amazing to feel the heat and temporary humidity with the water on the ground. It all evaporated in 5 minutes or so and the humidity disappeared with it. As the cloud moved away northwards I heard a rumble of thunder too.
Fairly sunny again now.
Will be interesting to see the effect on the official temperature here.

Edit: noticed that the temperature dropped from 36C to 34C in 30 minutes

No idea what the actual temp is here right now, in Dartford, as I don't have access to my WS from my new office, however it's pretty nice to see the Ac Castellanus bubbling up in the S, drifiting past the windows. There's certainly a lot more of it now than there was an hour ago!

After the cooler blip an hour ago we're now on a heat run here with temps up to 36.4C.

It will be also be very significant because of the larger area of the country covered (compared to 10th August 2003).

Just reached 32.0c here, shattering my record of 30.7c (although only lived here five years)

Even cold exposed, rural Leeds Bradford has hit 31c.  Leeds University 34.4c, although not official. Likely that it is 34c in favourable spots in the city centre.

Can't believe the Bedford data is failing now. It had the highest reading at 1pm but the 2pm one is garbage.

36.6C. Feels like we've now left basecamp and are making our attempt to scale the summit.

I saw a maximum of 37.3 earlier on my station which is in a sheltered spot. It has started to cloud over now and it reads 36C.
