Anyone for round 2?
https://www.metoffice.gov.uk/weather/warnings-and-advice/uk-warnings#?date=2019-07-25

"Following a hot day (in places exceptionally so), scattered thunderstorms are likely to break out from late afternoon onwards. While some areas, particularly in the south of the warning area may well avoid the storms, where they do occur they could produce 20-30 mm of rain in less than an hour, along with frequent lightning, hail and gusty winds. Perhaps the main focus will be later in the evening and into the first part of the night across northern England and southern and eastern parts of Scotland, where storms could be more widespread and locally intense."

Just noticed that the Met Office have issued yet another yellow warning for thunderstorms for between 3pm tomorrow afternoon and 4am on Friday morning as shown here.

This time, the area which is covered by that is SE Scotland along with north, east and central England.

The impact matrix for this shows that this is something which is unlikely to happen in any given location which suggests that this is likely to be just a few scattered or isolated thunderstorms, but the impacts of that could be quite high in those areas which are affected so that is something to be aware of.

 EDIT:

Apologies for repeating the link which Arcus had already posted, but he only just beat me to doing that and no more.

It seemed to last for about half an hour after 3am here and no bang was ever less than five seconds away from the attendant bang, meaning that once again we were sideswiped.

You could tell that somewhere it was a real flash bang show, but temperature apart it was a relatively low key event here.

It's all very exciting, but there's a danger of getting too many threads so that no-one can find anything. I agree that today's weather is likely to spawn an extraordinary number of posts so useful to have them all in one thread. May O recommend the following protocol:

Historic Heat watch - actual reports from anywhere of temps today 25th July

High temp reports  - suspended for now, will re-open tomorrow

Potential record breaker - speculation as to where things will happen next

Current conditions - actual reports from where you are now unless meriting a post in Historic heat Watch

Convection thread  - reports of storms and their development, temps only as incidental to this

Model output thread - developments over the next few dayi

Some interesting returns on the radar just off the Suffolk coast this morning. Relates too to a narrow band of tall cloud on the satellite. In the context of today’s wider events it’ll be interesting to see if this gets wrung out or develops as it could well rain on some of East Anglia’s parade later.

Let's not forget as well that if anyone is either unhappy about what is happening today or wishes to gloat about that, there is also the summer moaning thread which is currently on page 2 of the default list of threads on this forum as I write.

The atmosphere is certainly loaded. I notice the Met Office have extended their warning to include this region (and further north). Personally I would have included it in the first place

Probably not thundery, but it's concerning the amount of rain that may fall in N. England over the weekend. 120mm potentially over the North York Moors.

Yes, I did hope we might get in on the fun and games later.  Worst case scenario for us is storms taking a more S-N path - one batch to our west and another to our east....

Showers getting going over Wales, signs of electrification now as well. Heading north - very fast moving (elevated). May not be much in the way of ppn at the surface.
