Already the biggest storm ive seen in decades and it hasnt even arrived yet. Distant rumblings twice if not 3 times the amount of lightning

Maybe 20 strikes a minute at the moment? Coming from wales.. 30% is nearby...

This could be the biggest storm of my life....

Round 2 has arrived, with even heavier rain and some impressive overhead cloud-to-cloud lightning.

Rainfall was very localised but torrential.. 1mm at Thorney for example and yet over 15mm at a Gosport station of which 14.8mm falling in under 1 hour - radar analysis would point to it falling in no more than 20 minutes.

Not sure how much fell across my home town but again i suspect there would be large difference over very small distances. Some road flooding was encountered on taxi trip home from the south of the island.

What is certain is that there was plenty of fork lightning

Lightning flashes are gradually getting brighter. It looks like one hell of a storm over there! Congrats to those under it, I'm jealous.

Cracking cell, flashing constantly, gusty winds which threatened to take the fence out and biblical rainfall. Thunder isn't that loud as it's elevated but it's audible constantly.

Seems as though that's it for now, no fork lightning here but I have to admit I have never witnessed lightning as active as that, for an hour or so it was constant to the point there was no gaps as was the thunder, it did not stop at all, so for that it was impressive. I did get to see some proper fork lightning but that was way east towards Salisbury my high point gave me a good view that way.

Fantastic overnight thunderstorm just then in Manchester. Frequent flashes but not much thunder mind you. Still great though!

Should have a video up in the morning.

Wow!  This is some light show and what a way to be woken.  Constant lightning although not as much thunder.  Looking at the lightning map, it’s across the whole country!  It looks very colourful!  I’ve never seen it so  widespread!

That was well worth staying up for. A proper elevated light show! Some real intense bursts of lightning at times. Flashes every few seconds at its peak. Even with the rain it's still 19 degrees.

Yep, a really fun night in the end! Lots of IC lightning with one very loud CG nearby at about 2:45am. Now that one did make me jump!

Heavy rain now with the odd leftover flash. 19C.

Just saw an impressive flash of lightning here in Edinburgh. There are also some rumbles of thunder with that.

In addition to that, it has also just started raining here with some fairly bright echoes showing up on the rain radar maps nearby.

EDIT:

That rain has just about completely missed us to our east, and is also dissipating.

What is interesting though, is that there is a much larger batch of heavy rain down in the Scottish Borders where I was a few days ago with some very intense bright echoes showing up on the leading edge of that, and also a few lightning strokes.

Just spotted some distant flashes of lightning over the Pentland Hills as that next batch of storms moves up from the Scottish Borders.

In addition to that, the temperature at Edinburgh Gogarbank has also shot up from 16.8°C at 2am this morning to 22.0°C as at 4am this morning as it becomes even more hot and sultry.
