Most of the models yesterday were closer to actuality than the Met text forecasts I saw. There was a lot of cloud around and that pegged back temperatures. The models continue to show quite a lot of cloud at times in the next few days.

The hell goes on. Yet again I have woken up to dismal, depressing grey skies

This crap is just like 2012. The sky clears after sunset and you think finally a decent day will be ahead tomorrow but no. You wake up to find more grey muck that takes forever to clear if at all.

This is an absolutely dreadful summer. It's nowhere near as poor as 2012 but more like 2016 without the rain. Being dry is no good without sun and warmth and there has been little of either for weeks. Not reached 20C for over three weeks and not seen a mostly clear sky for over two weeks except for perhaps Thursday when there was a 40mph wind howling at the same time

Seems like the week ahead will turn out to be a dismal disappointment. Not that it matters much being stuck in an office but it would be nice to get some warm evenings where you can sit out until sunset. None at all this summer but there were at least a few last year. Looks like it will struggle to get much above 20C with a lack of clear skies. Then downhill in time for the weekend

That means not a single decent weekend this summer. Then I'll be away three Saturdays and after that only five weekends till Autumn. Just feels like another summer slipping down the toilet. What does it actually take to deliver dry and sunny weather in this appalling season

Yesterday was cloudy and pleasantly warm in the garden much of the day. Today? As forecast the sun will be out in the next hour or two and if forecasts are correct it should be a very nice day.

The week ahead looks very pleasant indeed, albeit a little cooler here than inland. If this is appalling when it is so much better than most recent years I dread to think how previous Junes should be described in comparison. I bought new garden furniture a couple of months ago and have used and continue to be able to use it more often than in many of the last few years combined.

Yesterday was not pleasantly warm once the sun went away. 16C and overcast is not pleasant. I had to put a jumper on but eventually just gave up and came inside.

The average sunshine since 9th June has been 4.3 hours per day. Three Saturdays in a row have failed to manage 5 hours sun. That is indeed appalling though it speaks volumes about the state of summer over the past decade that there have been several years when it's been even worse.

I was able to set out in the garden more last June, despite it being the wettest on record, because the evenings and weekends were often fine - far better than this year. It has been a real struggle to find any opportunity to sit in the garden for the past fortnight and I'm sick of it.

Not according to your gloomy neighbour it isn't. Honestly, I sometimes find it difficult to believe you live in the same place, your accounts of the weather conditions are so different.

Indeed! I spent all of yesterday in the garden or outside generally and although it was only sunny for brief periods it was very nice. I don’t expect warm evenings in a coastal location in a maritime climate at 57°N. Any warm evenings are the exception and are very welcome.

The weather is very useable and about to get better but perhaps expectations and looking for the negative rather than the positive leads to different views.

I judge the summers up here by amount of “useable” outside time and since May there has been a good amount of it. One unexpected bonus has been the lack of rainfall means I have not had to cut the grass very much this year.

Is this morning’s cloud up there permacast or Stratocast? Down here we have a bit of the latter, but nothing too bad. Or what the French call voile (sheet / sail).

Even here in Edinburgh, it's also gloriously sunny just now (so no "permacast hell" to speak of this time).

The north of Edinburgh, usually always missing out on snow events which occur not just within the rest of Scotland or the UK, but also within the rest of Edinburgh.

There's not been much useable outside time at all over the past few weeks. The evenings have been poor and the weekends have been poor. Cloudy and windy a lot of the time.

The three things I enjoy doing are walking, relaxing in the garden and photography and the past couple of weeks have been lousy for all three activities.

Forecast for the coming week is 17-20C and sunny spells. It is hard not to feel despondent if that is really the best we can expect nowadays because what has happened to clear skies with only fair weather cloud and 20s temperatures?

It is more the rapidlydisappearingcast type  There will however be one little stubborn patch over one part of the city no doubt.

I don't think I have ever read a single positive Aberdeen weather related post from Richard (or whatever his name is)

I've seen maybe the odd one here and there, but they are such a rarity that you probably wouldn't even notice them and there are no other members of this forum (who I know of anyway) who are so unhappy with the weather in their area about 99% of the time as Richard is.

Yep, yesterday was cloudy (old fashioned terminology) most of the day but I was able to cut the grass and be outside in a t-shirt no problem.

Bizarrely this morning it does seem to be getting cloudier here rather than clearing... but I am an optimist at heart so will keep the faith.

Richards role on the forum is to be poetically miserable, I wouldn’t have it any other way. Just as Jiries’ is to berate the illegality of rain under high pressure, Retron’s is to express existential angst about warm weather and picturesareme’s is to humble-brag about the sunny climate of the South coast.

My own preferred style is emotional flip flopping based on the whims of the latest model run.

I can`t think of anything to moan about this summer so far, except maybe that as we are on a water meter I`m probably spending a fortune watering the garden and filling the pond up with the hosepipe!

A rarity in the summer months but provides much needed entertainment.

Whether its 22c and sunny or 30c and sunny, it doesnt bother me. Lovely to be in sunshine. However whether we get one inch or six inches of snow is a different matter....

Given that the record high in Aberdeen is 26.7 for June temps pushing up much more than 20C must be fairly rare events anyway ?
