This should be in the media thread but i am moaning as I live in Exeter and this is the reason why:

An organised but light band of snow approaching N. Devon and Cornwall and then as it moves inland and southwards across mainland Devon look at above map and what it will bring to Exeter as and when it doe at 15:00 as seen below!? - Of all places guess what Exeter experiences!? But have to LOL - PS That blue shade on the map over DARTMOOR to the west of Exeter is frost (daytime frost) I assume NOT rain if there is rain you will no where it will fall in Devon tomorrow!!

It's a wind up really. -Has to be Exeter doesn;t it! ha ha!

Although this one delivered for me, I do feel your pain, having often missed out in the past! Hopefully, the snow might still get to you...

Nope +5c now in Exeter and it's partly cloudy/partly sunny - when places further west and esp south west like St Austell, Truro, Plymouth, Newquay, Bude and Barnstaple are experiencing hours of light persistent snow and temperatures of 0c to +2c

Not only is North Devon and most of Cornwall staying colder but it's more snowy too!

Feels balmy here - little or no wind at all. The max for today was meant to be +3c at 1500 well we are already some 2c above that anyway!

Over the past 27 years there have only been 2 occasions in Portsmouth where a significant amount of snow has remained on the ground as snow for more then 24 hours, and by significant I'm talking 4cm or more!!!

So if anybody wants to moan because they missed out on a little snow then please spare a thought for us down here on this little island.

Well I was only comparing the two set-ups, in that the snowly one fizzled and the rainly one intensified. Sod's law if you like. I wasn't really complaining about the lack of snow on Tuesday, it was never going to be a significant event.

In contrast what you might consider to be a poor summer would be probably be a good one for me, so remember that the next time you are complaining you haven't reached 30C all summer :)

I missed your post.. But my post was just a vent/rant at how dire the snow prospects are down here.

What a stunning ‘coldest week of winter’. Deep, crisp and even snow, brilliant blue arctic skies and sharp frosts. None of those things were evident during this dire, grey and depressing week. When the sun did come out this afternoon it reached 7.6C– a mild, March, springlike day.

-3.2C was the lowest managed all week, similar well inland at Aboyne and further inland Braemar managed about -5C. Simply dreadful and even that was just a one off . The rest of the nights either didn’t get below freezing or only just.

Each successive cold snap in this embarrassment of a winter has been more puny and inadequate than the last:

Cold snap #1, 8th–11th December: -6.1C

Cold snap #2, 27th-29th December: -5.5C

Cold snap #3, 6th-8th January: -5.4C

Cold snap #4: 17th-21st January: -3.9C

Cold snap #5: 5th -7th February: -3.2C

No snow lying for 6 weeks now bar that utterly useless watered down wallpaper paste there was on Tuesday morning which thankfully was gone by lunchtime. Shocking outlook as well so that’s the first half of February as good as a write-off now. At this rate it’ll be joining January as the least wintry since 2014. Would be the 8th poor February for snowfall in a row which would exceed the dire run of seven duds in a row from 1979-85

Looks like the cold snaps are getting less cold' as time goes by for Aberdeen!

What bugs me is France - Paris has seen almost 1ft of snow a few days ago and expect to get up to 10cms of fresh snow tomorrow -That's on top of Existing snow! Yet southern England (most areas) - take London hasn't even seen a flake!! Yet this system passes the south as rain but turns to snow over France !!

Not fair really! DOn't you think?

Yet north of Inverness in Strathoykel there have been quite a few frosts in the-double figure category and a fortnight or so ago level snow up to welly tops. No modern winter there yet..

Another busted forecasts to go with the multitude of other busted forecasts this winter. Snow forecasted from the early hours until mid morning the reality, pissing down with rain and even at 350m it’s only sleet. The next busted forecast awaits us for Sunday’s No Show. πŸ˜‚πŸ˜‚

As well as being rather rubbish this morning with overcast skies, wind and rain. I can see two southerly gale events being forecast for Kent in the medium range outputs, one over the weekend and a longer lasting one mid-week next week.

How underwhelming is that as strong wind and heavy rain does absolutely nothing for me, but still, at least this winter is not being as God-awful as 2014. That one properly set the bar in terms of utter bilge.

Another busted flush pathetic attempt at winter. Record snowfalls in America and Spain, snows hitting Europe now and even North Africa and the Sahara has had snowfall this winter. Russia and Moscow in particular has just recorded record snowfall. Parts of Asia in deep cold.
Here, it’s a depressingly familiar story of another winter where we are chasing FI carrots and measuring any snowfall in millimetres. Truly pathetic, roll on spring.

I have a feeling though that in some parts of the country though, our so-called "spring" might actually end up being when winter starts especially as the upcoming SSW event is now likely to have had at least, some effect by then.

In other parts of the country even in those areas which have done relatively OK so far in terms of snow and/or frost, that could also be when we end up getting our coldest weather of the entire winter.

The springtime is usually on average, is most easterly time of the year as the weakening polar vortex is then more likely to allow a blocking high to form to our north, and feed in those easterly winds. In most years, that tends not to happen until the continent has warmed up a bit (usually around April/May) when the resulting easterly winds coming from that warmer continent and then blowing over that still cold North Sea brings the characteristic east coast haar to those of us here in on the east coast of Scotland.

However, it wouldn't such a setup to occur much more quickly than that, for the continent to still be cold at that time as was the case in March 2013. If that happened, it would then still be not too late for those easterly winds to be cold winds coming all the way from Siberia, which would then bring snow. My feeling is that the upcoming SSW event probably increases the chances of that happening this year, even although this still doesn't guarantee anything.

The north of Edinburgh, usually always missing out on snow events which occur not just within the rest of Scotland or the UK, but also within the rest of Edinburgh.

Ah OK, fair enough.

But I imaging snow prospects right on the south coast were never that good. What's your best snow opportunity, an easterly associated with a channel runner?

I tend to restrict my moans with respect to not getting what was forecast or in comparison to the norms for this area. No point in me complaining that I always get far fewer hot days than the south east!
