After a three day drought in this part of this world, I finally have something to report on this thread as 1.6 mm of rain has fallen at the botanic gardens here in Edinburgh between midnight at the start of today and 8am this morning. There has been a little bit of rain since 8am, but that won't be confirmed until the figures for between 8am and 9am are published at weathercast.co.uk. It has stopped raining now and so, I'm not envisaging anything more than about 0.2 mm for the hour since 8am being recorded. The current running totals for the botanic gardens in Edinburgh up to 8am and taking a rain day as one where 1 mm of rain or more has fallen is as follows:

Monthly Total For October: 22.8 mm (Expected), 21.2 mm (Actual)
Number of Rain Days in October so far: 3.7 (Expected), 4 (Actual)

We have now had 28.0% of our average October rainfall and 48.4% of our average number of rain days in October so far, so this month is currently 6.9% drier than average according to the actual rainfall amounts, but 7.1% wetter than average according to the number of rain days.

2017 Autumn Total: 86.5 mm (Expected), 83.2 mm (Actual)
Number of Rain Days so far this autumn: 13.9 (Expected), 17 (Actual)

We have had 41.3% of our average autumn rainfall so far and 50.3% of our average number of rain days for this autumn so far, so this autumn is currently 3.8% drier than average according to the actual rainfall totals, but 22.0% wetter than average according to the number of rain days.

2017 Yearly Total: 528.6 mm (Expected), 589.2 mm (Actual)

We have had 83.7% of our average annual rainfall so far, so this year is currently 11.5% wetter than average.

It has been raining here steadily since last night but there has been no data for that for either Edinburgh Gogarbank or the botanic gardens in Edinburgh since 2pm yesterday at weathercast.co.uk. Since I have no other means of being able to get any of the latest data for the botanic gardens, I have no option other than to report the data for Edinburgh Gogarbank in the meantime. I can get that data from SEPA, although that is always an hour or so behind weathercast.co.uk.

For that reason, I can only report that a total of 2.2 mm of rain fell at Edinburgh Gogarbank during yesterday up to midnight, followed by a further 3.6 mm of rain during this morning between midnight and 6am. This means that the running totals for Edinburgh Gogarbank up to 6am this morning, taking a rain day to be one where 1 mm or more of rain has fallen were as follows:

Monthly Total For October: 27.9 mm (Expected), 27.8 mm (Actual)
Number of Rain Days in October so far: 4.2 (Expected), 6 (Actual)

We have now had 32.9% of our average October rainfall and 46.9% of our average number of rain days in October so far, so this month is currently 0.4% drier than average according to the actual rainfall amounts, but 41.8% wetter than average according to the number of rain days.

2017 Autumn Total: 85.9 mm (Expected), 86.0 mm (Actual)
Number of Rain Days so far this autumn: 14.6 (Expected), 22 (Actual)

We have had 40.0% of our average autumn rainfall so far and 60.1% of our average number of rain days for this autumn so far, so this autumn is currently 0.1% wetter than average according to the actual rainfall totals, and 50.4% wetter than average according to the number of rain days.

2017 Yearly Total: 560.4 mm (Expected), 587.2 mm (Actual)

We have had 77.8% of our average annual rainfall so far, so this year is currently 3.5% wetter than average.

One of those dangerous orographic events for Cumbria today with 4" or more likely.
As usual in such events 50 miles to the east here we have patchy drizzle.

Yes the rain radar looks very intense around the Lakes!

Dry here with the odd bit of drizzle as is usually the case with this set up.
12.2mm for the month.

The Pennines are doing a good job at blocking the rain for now. It's basically been in the same place since I woke up this morning (6am).

That is exactly what happened here yesterday as the rain arrived quite early yesterday morning in the west and north of Scotland, but never got any further east than somewhere around the Stirling area. That then allowed us to have what was technically, a completely dry day yesterday because although we did get some light drizzle at times, this was never enough for that to be recorded as any sort of measurable rainfall. It was only really later on last night that this rain eventually extended itself a bit further east to reach us here in Edinburgh.

I can only imagine that this is probably only due to a slight change in the wind direction, resulting is us being not as sheltered from any high ground and in fact, there are still some areas (according to the latest rain radar maps) further to the east of here (such as in East Lothian and Berwickshire) which are seeing very little of that rain, if anything at all.For here, today's total has now increased to 5 mm at Edinburgh Gogarbank (weathercast.co.uk still isn't showing any rainfall totals which means that I still can't give any updates for the botanic gardens in Edinburgh) which brings this month's total to 29.2 mm, and this means that today is already our second wettest day of this month so far.

This rain was supposed to clear away to the south, but it still hasn't done so yet and as I write, it has actually returned northwards a bit to end up back over us once again after briefly stopping a short of while. So far this month has been interesting because whilst there are still a few members reporting higher rainfall totals than me, that isn't happening to the same extent as last month and there are more members than last month who are in locations which are much drier than here. It looks as though this will continue for a while during this month because as the south of England enjoys an Indian Summer by the weekend (and therefore, much drier weather), we are forecast to see yet more rain which means that this could end up turning out to be rather a wet month here in the end.

We have light rain currently, but it appears the area of rain is now moving east quickly and getting weaker/patchier in the process, so will probably diminish in the next few hours. Still no rain registered. Total for the month is 8mm.

This area had mostly escaped the rain so far, until a bit of a squall line came through just then. Up to about 5.4mm currently, so locally nothing really too out of the ordinary.

Finally, it has now managed to stop raining here after such a miserable morning in this part of the world, but not before this event dumped 6 mm of rain during today at Edinburgh Gogarbank as at midday (the actual current total will probably be a bit higher than that since it was still raining even then), thus bringing this month's total to 30.2 mm for that same station.

Probably a safe bet that there's been more rain in 12 hours today than there was in the whole of last October here.
