GFS now has 44C or 46C depending on the gridpoint. That's exceptionally dangerous and I don't envy them (or their healthcare system) one iota.

Their all-time high is 39C, so it's not just a little bit over either.
It's the equivalent of getting a forecast for 43 to 45C for London, to put it in comparison.
Google is showing 46C for Portland today. The all time record was only set yesterday at 42.2C. If it reaches 46C today that isn't breaking, isn't even smashing, that's obliterating the record!
44.4 at the airport there yesterday.
Of note is the sounding in Vernon, BC, Canada:
http://weather.uwyo.edu/cgi-bin/sounding?region=naconf&TYPE=TEXT%3ALIST&YEAR=2021&MONTH=06&FROM=2800&TO=2800&STNM=73033
That's got to be excpetional. 29C at 850, a thickness of 591dam....
To put it into context that would be like the UK suddenly getting into the low 40s.
The Canadian national record was smashed yesterday. Lytton in British Columbia reached 46.6C. The previous national record for any month was 45.0C. Looks like the record could go even higher today.

If that forecast is right it would beat the date record for 28 June by 15F
Even in UK money (8.4C) that's some going

BBC article on the extreme heat wave - and the inevitable link to climate change as the most likely cause.

A couple of 36s and 37s now in OR and WA. Quite warm for morning.
38C at 10am local time at Ephrata airport, WA.
Up to 46C in Salem, OR
EDIT: make that 47C (rounded).
My cousin in Seattle said it reached 41.0c there - Making it the hottest day in Seattle ever recorded in history.
Canada's set another all-time high for the second day in a row... a village in BC recorded a high of 47.9C yesterday, which - astonishingly - is hotter than anything recorded in Las Vegas!https://www.cbc.ca/news/canada/british-columbia/western-canada-heat-wave-june-28-1.6082676
Extraordinary.
I have to say I find these events quite scary, as they’re a harbinger of what’s coming our way. This is happening with global temperatures just over 1c up on pre-industrial levels. What will it look like when we’re up at +2c and more?
Even on the eastern side it’s hot - 30c in the GTA (Toronto) yesterday.
That's almost unreal, Baghdad temperatures in Canada not good.
Yes record was smashed in White Salmon WA. Very accurate temp forecast.
