Winter weather for N. America 2020/2021 highlights from AccuWeather:

--------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Never knew that last year New York City only managed pitiful "4.8" inches of snow throughout the whole winter 2019/20 season. - Given the 1991-2020 average for the whole winter is 26.1 inches of accumulated snow for the Big Apple.

Been a consistent trend over the past few years I notice with the western 3rd of the USA esp NW of USA/Canada seeing below normal temperatures - I wonder if this is down to the persistent NE pacific HP ridge building to the south of Alaska and allowing the jet to dive into northern Canada and central and northwestern USA giving the brutal cold snow and cold!? The ridge building in the NE pacific is a constant sign of above normal SST's in that area!? What do you think? Also there is a warm ridge over the South and south east of the USA?

That really is going to be an historic heatwave! Looking like all sorts of records will be broken. Thanks for sharing

That looks pretty awful, really hot for that area which in the mountain regions like the Cascades  normally has quite cool nights even if the days are hot.

It's been an odd couple of months for world weather. Lots of heatwaves in quite unusual places, whilst (with the exception of the Persian Gulf) there's not been the big heatwaves in areas we had been getting used to seeing in recent years like India/Pakistan pre-Monsoon, central Siberia, France and Italy.

This NW US one looks mind blowing. Real stuck jetstream classic. They've been getting all time records this week in a few other places on this side of the Atlantic too - Estonia, Finland, Slovakia, Armenia.

They are extremely lucky to see a proper heatwave as Uk so far haven't received one and we well over due for one and need asap while daylight still long enough.
