Those tables are brilliant GW and great fun to peruse. Congrats to WI- the few at the top were clearly not fooled by the end of November hints at a cold December- it's that December band that seems to have ruined the chances of quite a few!

Thanks for running the comp again this year GW despite your pressure of work

I am hoping for a better year in 2017 than 2016 where I managed to do a convincing impression of Leicester City dropping 48 places in one year

Last table from me today. For those who made a winter CET prediction here is the full list.

Tomorrow I will start posting up some data into the January thread.

EDIT - also to be added to the above list - Jonesy with a prediction of 2.4C. Just had to clarify his prediction before including in the list.

One Christmas stat for you. The maximum CET on Christmas day this year was 13.1C. This equals the figure from last year which in turn is the highest in the series since 1878.

Thanks Bert.  I took a bit of stick for my views about others' views on December.  But you've got to be prepared to stick by your own reasoning and see through other's mistakes when you think they've got it wrong, whoever they are.

Thanks! I've been quietly confident for the last few days that my guess was looking good. Nice to see me bounce back up the table as well, though missing the Top 10 by a whisker. Too many bad predictions earlier in the year! Congrats to WI for beating my annual record.

I would support all predictions via PM if you wanted to go that way. Thanks for all the work on this GW, it is amazing and much appreciated.....

Pretty chuffed with 2nd place, though I will admit that a late change to my guess helped considerably! Thanks so much for all your work on this GW - it really is very much appreciated.

Thanks GW. An excellent competition that must take up a lot of time and effort for which I'm really grateful.

Thanks Darren.  I was a little bit in awe of how you managed to do so well.  My 2015 predictions were a hopeless mess. I would like to think I will be in with a shout in 2017, but this is an awfully difficult pursuit, so who knows? Lets just say I had to work hard on my methodology.

Congratulations on your victory Whether Idle - a worthy winner !

For the last few weeks I thought I had a chance by going high, but your final prediction was just too good.

Many thanks also to GW for all the efforts involved.

Congratulations WI, a worthy winner. Also well done to all those who took part, it's a great competition, and it's not easy to get anywhere close on a monthly basis.

Huge thanks to GW for all the hard work in maintaining the interest in what has become an integral part of TWO, you do a great job.

For those who have not as yet taken a punt, give it a shot, it's contagious.

Happy New Year all.

I'm very pleased to finish 4th, though it was mostly down to luck than judgment.

A salute from Whether Idle to all those contenders who've congratulated me on attaining the crown for 2016, and for attaining a cumulative error of 5.99 degrees c - the all time record thus far in this competition.

If you look at GWs excellent analysis he published yesterday you will see that I was lying around 32nd/53 by around April. A word of encouragement or two to all 2017 contenders is to be found in a selection of lyrics from ol Blue Eyes:

That's life (that's life) that's what people say
You're riding high in April
Shot down in May
But I know I'm gonna change that tune
When I'm back on top, back on top in June

I said, that's life (that's life) and as funny as it may seem
Some people get their kicks
Stompin' on a dream
But I don't let it, let it get me down
'Cause this fine old world it keeps spinnin' around

I've been a puppet, a pauper, a pirate
A poet, a pawn and a king
I've been up and down and over and out
And I know one thing
Each time I find myself flat on my face
I pick myself up and get back in the race

Good luck to all and keep trying.  2017 will be a real test and I will try and avoid a hubristic fate.
