Bugger. I've gone the wrong way this month. I needed to gamble, went for mild.

And me!  I very nearly changed my guess but the last time I did that, I wished I hadn't. Sometimes your initial gut feelings are best but I don't think mine are this time.

A bit too early to be writing off predictions I think at this stage. But it certainly looks like a very chilly first half of the month. Today and tomorrow are somewhat warmer so the CET will recover into the 11's. But then it will be very much on the way down again.

Currently I expect 10.50C by the 18th.

I am relying on something more unsettled and milder for the latter part of the month in order to get close to my prediction of 10.90C. I was tempted to go lower but held off. The GFS ENS were split at the start of the month. The Op and Control and a few ENS members going for mild. When the op and control are in alignment it pays not to ignore this. But the majority of ENS members were cool and that is the way things are panning out.

Here is the list of predictions for October. We are missing a few people this month.

Most going for above average but a significant number opting for a cool month. Quite a spread this time round. Interesting to see what happens. Cool seems favourite at the moment but it is possible we could see milder unsettled conditions in the second half which would make a big difference. Could be some big swings in the competition table again this month. Interesting times!

I assume much too late now, been very busy, I thought about this Friday then forgot totally about it.

If it is still possible, I will go for 10.1C.

Hi GW, great work and much appreciated.  I think a night time cloud blanket and a nagging easterly wind will combine to keep the CET higher than you might have been expecting.  As we know, that wind makes it feel colder than it is, and the cloud blanket does its thing, so perhaps those in the 12's will be closer to the mark?  Its all up in the air this month.

Oh dear! On its way down already and I can't see it ever getting up to my 12.2 guess now. Let alone ending at it.

I see the CET is on its way up, and knocking on 12c. Worth saying again, easterly will produce a CET near average, what happens after that ?
