Same here Tim - No way can I see the 2006 record being broken.

If the output for next week verifies we could see a mid month CET of 17.5 or more. Then we'd have to have a big cool down for it to fall. So I wouldn't rule out being close to the record. A lovely summer!

So exactly half way through the month - we're 0.6C above the previous record.

You are right, unfortunatly, downhill from here on in as it looks like summer is departing for good this weekend.

Still going to be pleasant enough so I don't expect the September cet to fall off a cliff and end up around 16c

Given that yesterday was warm I think we may see it go up another notch tomorrow before it starts to fall. We're at the half way mark so it won't change as much, so we could see 16 c as a finishing figure.

Very much cooler nights still won't be enough to bring it down to my 15.5c guess.

Still, the output for the final week of the month suggests there's a slim chance of challenging the record. But the great British weather has us guessing as usual.

HADcet says it was 17.4C to the 16th (yesterday). To go below 16C for the whole month, it would have to come in at about 14.5C for the remainder. Possible, as there has been a fairly high frequency of whole Septembers in the mid 14s.

So the CET for the first half of September comes out at 17.43C by my calculations.

This is the second warmest on record. The previous warmest first 15 days of September were:

1898 17.59C
2016 17.43C prov.
1795 17.29C
2005 17.27C
2006 17.17C
1949 17.15C
1780 17.11C

The second half of September will see temperatures close to average. So the CET will fall significantly. Currently I am expecting a final CET for this month of 15.60C. So we are likely to finish well below 16C unless something warm turns up unexpectedly next week.

Here are the latest charts and data for September. Probably three consecutive CET data records earlier in the month. Will need to wait for the final data for confirmation. The third one is marginal.
