Both the Argies and the Krauts are strong in defense. It won't be as dirty as the 1990 final but it could be as sterile. Germany will win it and probably win it with the usual Tuetonic efficiency 1-0, or it will be 0-0 after 120 mins and Germany will win the penna shoot out. Or Germany could turn it on again and smash the goals, but Argentina are just a little bit better organised at the back than Brazil. I think my work 5 a side team is better organised at the back than Brazil! Either way the end result should be a German win.

Agree. I'll go for Germany 2-1 Invaders, and hope my run of perception in this World Cup continues. No doubt it'll come crashing down in the final and the Invaders will triumph in a way they could only have dreamed about at Port Stanley.

Talking of predictions Matty, remember the one you made 2 or so years back that Andy Murray would never win a tennis Grand Slam tournament?

No, I think his punt was that he would never smile even if he won a slam, and I think he collects his money on that

So unbelievably, my run of predicting each winner from the knockout games has continued, and I have predicted 13 correct winners in a row. All I need now is Germany to win the final and I will pocket $200 from my work pool, but if not, I will still come in at worst third which will see a small cash prize

Even more remarkable is that I did absolute gash in the round robin part of the tournament and was placed 21 of 28 participants.  That I am provisionally first is nothing short of a miracle.

So will be cheering on the Germans on Sunday, even though I will be away working at a conference, should hopefully have time for 2hrs lunch and a beer.  Even if money wasn't riding on it, I'd be supporting ze Germanz as I just cannot find myself liking the Argies for so so many reasons.

Nice one. I was saying at work that the Argies would make the final from the start, should have out a few notes on it.

It is a difficult on deciding between Argentina and Germany,  bit like being asked if you want to be kicked in the nuts or the head.

I will go with ze Germans I think, but not with any joy.

Also what do we think the 3rd/4th place game will finish as?

I will go Netherland 10 - 2 Brazil

Usually these games are rubbish but this could be worth a look just to see another potential Brazil car crash.

Hahaha, Robben and Van persie will tear them a new one.  Agree that this is the one to watch for some entertainment.  What odds on Fred starting as a 'false 9' again?

I really wish I had also put down some money with a bookie on these run of results, an accumulator would have pulled in a hefty sum.  As it happens, for the final, I think Germany will actually edge the game, since at least they are better in most departments and than the Argies and are more roudned. I reckon though it will be a snoozefest like Spain V Holland last time around, with Argies defence parking the bus for the most part.

I think what the last 4 week has shown is nothing has changed.  As a European team has never won the World Cup in South America you've got to back the Argies to win. It's also very likely Germany peaked in the semi against Fred and co. Will this 'unpredictable' World Cup turn out to be the most predictable of all, or will there be one final twist?

Either way the end result should be a German win. (unless the Germany that played Ghana or Algeria turns up).

My comment about them being the worst side was tongue in cheek. I agree defensively the Argies are very good and well organised, that bit from the midfield onwards though is pretty average at best and sums up the whole tournament really, with England decidely well below average.

Woy and the boys got off lightly IMO because what looked like a poor performance when we were knocked out subsequently looked like an utterly inept one in the light of other games. Fortunately for them the world had moved on and people lost interest.

No Dutch courage those Dutch boys then if true. The Dutch don't have the guts to win a world cup, bottle it every time they get close and any sympathy I had for them is draining away. I know some will say you don't know what the pressure is like unless you are out there and in the situation. But these guys are professionals and every eventuality planned for and discussed by management. You would assume that they would have had a plan of who would take the first few.

Oh, and to add, what's not to like about 'winking and jerking your sock' severely to the point of drought? That was the story of my teenage years.
