Careful, you'll have Retron on your back about correct terminology ๐Ÿ˜

I'm going to enjoy the next couple of days. Plenty of warm weather time left in this summer. It stays relatively warm here for the foreseeable, albeit more unsettled.

If it's around about the late teens early 20's, rain or shine, thats fine by me. Chilly is when it's down about 11c

Remember it's risen to the late 20's in late October before now, so as far as I'm concerned summer ain't over by a long chalk I wouldn't be suprised if the models revert back to the July type weather

I'm just looking forward to tomorrow and Friday's heat before worrying about where the next warm spell will come from

"Average" for early August in the UK is pretty chilly (IMHO!)

Whereas IMHO 22-23c is chilly in the same way that 2-3c is hot

But clearly not everyone has the same temperature tolerations.

Spot on

As I pointed out recently, average is as warm as it gets in early August wrt uppers. I fully accept that windy weather can feel cool but that applies to most conditions at any time of year.

August is a very fickle month, largely due to the attempted onset of autumn conditions, albeit pretty muggy, in many years as westerlies try to establish

Signs that this year may go that way, but provided we still see a NW/SE split then it could be a decent month, at least down here

Indeed. I seem to recall that for much of the time during June, the model runs in general looked none too wonderful for settled & very warm weather, but looked at how all that changed during the last few days of that month when they began to pick up on the start of the heatwave in early July. Things can and do sometimes change at relatively short notice- we've all seen it before.

Many times yet we still get people writing summer off if a heatwave isn't being shown to start within the next 5 minutes by the models (or writing off winter if blizzards aren't being shown for the next day)

Not to mention factoring in ex-hurricanes getting tangled up in the mix, thus complicating matters even more.

Generally, August is more well known for heat coming in sudden and short spurts rather than sustained spell of warm and sunny weather, which June and July are generally best for that. It's a bit like trying to warm an oven up from cold where the energy is spent trying to build up the heat but once it's fully hot then you can turn the dial back a little bit to keep the heat going. Or something like that.
Also by this time the SSTs around the UK will tend to be at it's warmest so I should imagine coastal type mist and low cloud will become less frequent despite the rising humidity.

I think I'd find it quite hot in London when a lot of people from down there would probably put a jacket on! Tomorrow here in Mancheser, it's going to be about 25C and everyone in my work keeps talking about how hot it's going to be yet a 25C in London wouldn't get talked about. Anything above 20C is fine by me with the odd 24-27C thrown in there.

Hopefully we see a bit of sun tomorrow. Looks like there will be a lot of cloud around according to the not very reliable BBC

Indeed - the UK climate has huge variations so I agree about the temperature feel between the 2 cities

It has small variations. Not sure they're huge really. Continental climates such as North America have huge variations.

The wife has bullied me into going to London tomorrow. I just can't wait to be on and off the tube with a load of sweaties ๐Ÿ˜’

I do indeed, but it won't be tomorrow. However, later this month I will be in Kings Cross for a day or two every week for about 6 weeks. Will undoubtedly get a chance at some stage then, so I'll shout you ๐Ÿ‘
