I have seen more snow on the mountains in May and June than today. Its more like late spring outside day and night , so sad . If we get snow and frost in December it is stunning and never melts. This weather stinks other than it saves on the heating bills. I don't want a storm like last week either it was horrific here, a lot of damage.

I have daff bulbs springing up all over the place.

Came to abrupt halt again but that is the nature of Scottish Skiing (in normal winters).

I would imagine that any north through east aspects will be heavily loaded with windslab. Big unstable cornices too. Definitely a healthy dose of caution and some careful route choice required. I'm sure you'll enjoy a good day out though 🙂

Great pictures as usual Ross. Can't begin to imagine how it would have been last night with winds 70-100 knots and heavy driving snow. There will be an extreme build up of snow on NW facing slopes now.

Fantastic pics Ross, shame the snow isnt anywhere near as extensive in the Lake District which is prone to repeated thaws during this current spell of zonality.

Great to see Scotland doing well for YET ANOTHER snow season.

After 6 good years in the Scottish Highlands it seems the forecasted 'end of skiing in Scotland' which we heard many timse up till 2008 was a tad premature

The snow has continued to pile up over the last few days, particularly in the West but Cairngorm and Glenshee aren't doing too badly either. The only exception is the Lecht which is sheltered from the South through to West winds that have been prevelant. They could do with a Northerly blast ASAP.

Some fairly big avalanches ocuring at the moment with the quantity of snow that has fallen recently:

Super pics Ross, the cable car brings back some memories, went up in it a couple of times with the wife and even grabbed a helicopter ride at the top once and had a 15 minute ride over the glens, beautiful place.

I was on a flight last Monday 13th January from Heathrow to San Francisco and the flightpath took us NNW across England, central Scotland and exiting into the Atlantic across the top end of Lewis. England was pretty green for January and there was no sign of any lying snow in the north Pennines. Some drifts showed on the higher Southern Uplands but after the Central Belt the Scottish Highlands were creamy white and looked more like the Alps. They were stunning! I got good views of west Greenland and Baffin Island later in the flight but the Scottish mountains looked every bit as good.

Sadly no photos. Went to John Lewis on the Sunday just before leaving to get a new camera and they were out of stock of the one I wanted! Mobile phone was stowed away for the journey so I just drank in the view, trying to match up the mountains as the view unfolded. It was actually quite tough as they look quite different from the air as they do when seen from ground level.

Some really heavy falls of snow over at Glenshee in the last 24 hours with the SE winds. With the Western resorts and Cairngorm already loaded things are looking good. The quieter window on Thursday could be epic.
