What's that got to do with whether a reporter would pop down there to say 'oh look, this is Thorney Island, they got just over 30 here today'?

Still felt pretty warm when I arrived at Luton airport in the early hours but I missed the 38C day... having said that it has not exactly been cool in Mallorca. The weather forecasts were saying 32-34C where I was staying but it honestly felt hotter and the sun was ferociously strong.

Thorney Island reached 30.6C according to the Netweather tracker. I make that 38 days of 30C+ too but I think the Met have found an extra two somewhere. They tweeted on Wednesday 12th saying it was 37 days, and then we have also had Thursday, Friday and Saturday so that makes 40 days.

I think you are missing the point i believe Jires is making. Although Thorney is a rather remote rural coastal location and it's over 30C it is in the vicinity of large built up areas which will almost certainly be hotter in places thanks to urbanisation.

Incidentally, if you want to walk round Thorney on the public coastal foot path, it is still a military area. When I did so, a few years back. you had to stop at a gate and show your face to a camera before the control room would unlock it remotely for you., and then check out again on the way out.Β  Still in force AFAIK.

So, maybe 40 days of 30C now?

A crap week coming up with temps only in the mid 20s and even the odd illegal spot of rain may make it this far south, but after that the GFS has the next heatwave waiting to cover us

Yes and one to watch, some one other side already dismissing it but remember many was dismissing it on GFS showing the recent heatwave, they kept dismissing it to the day which prove them wrong when it reached 38.1c and my garden was 38.7 as GFS was showing 38-39 in the Midlands.Β  Very dry run with few rain spikes never higher than 1mm which mean nothing, had a 2mm spike for yesterday when it was sunny and dry.Β  Β

Frittenden 25.8 is the leader so far today - will it be the end of the heatwave? It needs to get to 27 to sustain it for another day...

Sadly we need to bypass the anti summer/heat haters/rain lovers protesters on the M25 today as they are on the gantry with their banners up.Β  Lot of hatred and dimissing toward GFS on 06z. never seen this outrage before toward a model.

If we need rain can we do Nicosia type that come with big storms, hail, heavy proper rain that we should be looking for on the models but there no sign of it.Β

Today here so far 28.5C still warm but no heatwave threshold for me as i set it at 30C plus.Β

27.0 East Malling, so the heatwave continues by the skin of its teeth. 27.6 Charlwood is the highest I can see, but the heatwave threshold there is 28.

EDIT: 25 here tomorrow and 27 on Tuesday going by the 12z GFS, so there may well be a couple more days to eke out yet. After that though it looks like a cold front will finally make it through - all the others so far have been feeble affairs, or have undergone frontolysis as they're passing.

27.2 Heathrow, but below the 28C heatwave threshold there. 27s at Exeter and Southampton weather centre - as per NW - but I'm not sure if they're rounded. It's close to another heatwave day...

Still warm here 26.8C with hazy sunshine today, not sure where the pollution clouds came from but very dirty looking skies.Β  I think is the smoke fire causing the dirty skies.
