30.9 here with the odd puff from the NE - down from 32.3 earlier.

Charlwood 34.5 - so it'll be close! Still another hour or two to go...

EDIT: And the date record is exactly 35.0, as per Torro:

Cambridge Observatory 1876

🙂🙂🙂🙃🙂

What an incredible summer this has been! We seem to be hitting these extreme temperatures (as they were previously referred to) so easily.  That now doubles the previous record of 5 times, back in 1976.

Makes my 36.7C in Pett Bottom a little less OTT than I’d feared. Still reckon it was a couple of degrees too high though.

Today looked like a Frittenden day, and so it turns out.

August is actually at exactly the same average daily max so far as we had in the whole of July, 29.2c, although that will obviously drop next week for sure.

It sounded like a red alert klaxon from Star Trek on my phone.

A severe alert from government about wildfire risk.

Yup, I'd turned them off on my old phone but forgot all about them on my new one. I was listening to a video of "Disco 2000" through headphones and thought the synthesiser section was a bit off! 😁

Hopefully the warning will make people think twice about those wretched portable BBQs!

Yes on what looks likely to be the last heatwave day for most for a while (who knows whether for the year or not) after 6 weeks of almost constant... great timing!

Got that too I wasn’t sure if where this sound come from.  This seem serious after what happened yesterday.

Exactly what I said to my wife! Really, does it take whole swathes of residential areas to be ignited before cobra decides to invade everybody else's privacy with their nuclear-sounding alert?

GFS control seems to have a hurricane on its way to us!

Yes, looking very wet on ECM as well.  The govt taking action has done a repeat of 1976 with the heavens opening.

I looked at the 12Z GEFS expecting to see a deluge but the "Moyenne des scenarios" has just 20mm of rain in the next 15 days, and that only because of some extreme outliers.
