Going to be a shock to the system in the south after next weekend.  21c is going to feel chilly!

Perhaps this is it now for the heatwaves this summer

An increased breakdown signal for  next weekend on this morning's output, ECM op was quite progressive into FI. I'm off to Greece the following Monday to carry on the sunshine in any case!

Not much of a cool down on the GFS 6z.  Brings back the heat quickly.

Still a lot of spread on the GEFS next week - P18 goes for 39C on Wednesday.

The mean max drops to around 24-25 in the south from the 18th but there are still signs of a possible new heatwave around the 22nd-25th.

Delightful run there from 12z ukmo if you want heat looks hot 96/120 with winds backing s/e low then cut off  further west  with a west/east  omega block.

Heat wave conditions amazing stuff

12Z GFS just goes crazy with another nine or ten 35C days including at least 4 37s... at least 21 consecutive days of 30C+. It would absolutely knock this summer out of the park in the record stakes.

Ridiculously hot GFS 12z,  mid 30s most of the run for us. Mid to high 40s for France

I strongly suspect we're stuck with this until the hurricane season ramps up. Hot air will never be far away this summer, and with SSTs widely into the 20s around southern England it means it's that much easier for heat to persist.

12Z GFS keeps the run of 30C days going until the 26th, that's 22 consecutive days. It seems very unlikely but this summer you really never know...

To me ukmo looks very hot indeed mid week as things shift se with France very hot indeed.

we shall see if she keeps her nerve but a clear upgrade from uk, icon gfs so far.

all to play for but a fabulous summer so far.

Talking of climate, France's is doing a great impression of Nevada right now - you could imagine that's how deserts start. From early in the GFS and well into FI, you can see the desert-like airmass blowing across western Europe...

Make no mistake, prolonged heat and subzero dewpoints will turn things into a tinderbox. I'd expect wildfires aplenty if this comes off!

My big Burnese dogs don’t like it but they get watered down 3 times a day which reduces stress and they love it I don’t take them out in these conditions I brought a portable ac room unit which keeps them cool as possible.

Something slightly off on the rendering of temps on the12z GFS in South Wales - check out the Newport cold hole. Clearly someone has cranked up the A/c there!

Do the models show any warmth getting to E. Scotland? I'm in jeans & fleece today and seriously thinking about coming south to Notts next week to experience some heat!

ECM still looks chilly at least until it topples.  Familiar winter pattern when we hope for a northerly but it topples

FAX - HP to the north of Scotland and LP over France with easterlies for England to start with; by Thu 16th the HP has moved to Norway and LP to Biscay so winds change to SE-ly (and hotter again?). Occasional showery troughs in the Channel.

GFS Op 0z - continues the above with shallow LP drifting northwards into the North Sea but making little impression on revived HP ridging from the SW to Scotland until Thu 23rd when this large area of HP withdraws to mid Atlantic and LP 1005mb swings down from the NW to Ireland. This LP introduces fresher NW-lies, later W-lies, and continues to affect Scotland  while pressure remains relatively high for S England.

ECM to T+240 - similar to GFS though keeping pressure higher to the NW and any shallow LP being quickly snuffed out.

AIFS - London, maxima generally upper 20s C, dipping a little Sun 19th but back up above 30C Fri 24th; previous thundery breakdown this weekend has been written out but after Sat 25th cooler with some rain.  Edinburgh, maxima 17C now, rising irregularly to 23C Tue 21st before dropping back to ca 20C. Trace of rain Sun 26th, otherwise dry.

GEFS - mean temp 5C above norm now, dropping back to norm over the next week and staying there to Tue 28th, generally good ens agreement though op, control and a couple of ens members promising 10C above norm for a couple of days around Tue 21st (only 5C above in Scotland). Small amounts of rain appearing from time to time in different runs after Wed 15th, but sometimes heavy in SW, least likely in Scotland
