A second peak in the heat is showing up on this morning's GFS for next week now (and it's not the warmest run in the pack by any means).
Maxima from today: 35, 36, 34, 33, 33, 35, 35, 35, before a thundery looking breakdown next Friday (but still high 20s until the following Wednesday)
Today (July 9) 50 years ago was the last day of the record-breaking 18-day 1976 heatwave. After that, 1976 only recorded four more days above 30C for the rest of the year.
