Still haven't seen any confirmation of the high for today - I assume if the June record had been beaten then the Met would have tweeted about it. Hoping we got a 35C somewhere but looks like we may have just fallen short. May not know till shortly after 7pm when the 18Z readings come in.

The BBC have called it, but a bit brave before seeing the 18z reports as you say! From their live feed:

As we reported in an earlier post, overnight storms meant the temperature in England wasn’t as hot as predicted.

Meanwhile, Scotland and Northern Ireland recorded their hottest days of the year so far.

Do you know if those are official? 34.6 was the highest hourly reading at Wisley but it could have gone higher - the overall high is usually a bit above the hourly max.

Edit - just seen the above (and 32.2 is indeed a lot higher than the hourly max at Cardiff).

Still, a date record by 2.4C, knocking 1976 off the perch....

It looks like Dyce actually hit 29.4C before 6pm. 

Still 32.2C (90F) at 7.40pm at Blackbushe. I take back my earlier comments, it is quite warm!

Very humid too, the cold beer I just got out of the fridge was covered in condensation within seconds.

I took a look and at the last frame is show 32-33C at midnight which is normal Death Valley night temperatures.  I see around 35-36C here on Friday.  My garden was 35.7C and the old Max and min thermometer 34.8C.    Now 31.9C as I leave the sensor out tonight see how warm tonight is.  Conservatory 41.3C today did not go to 44C I predicted due to cloudy this morning took away 6 hours of sun heating time.

Even as I write, the temperature is still a very sultry 25°C here in Edinburgh and I'm not looking forward in any way to tonight although the Met Office have downgraded previous forecasts which suggested that tonight could end up being our warmest June night on record here in Edinburgh.

That may be, but we are not Death Valley. And the humidity there is considerably lower than here in the UK which is what makes here so uncomfortable right now. Don't you have blinds on the roof of your conservatory to reduce/regulate the temperature?

The Gosport Gossip, surely!! Not in any way extracting the mickey, I can imagine it may well have been, we may even see our first ever tropical night this week, but I doubt it. 

"Overnight, the temperature did not dip below 20C at nine locations across England, recording what the Met Office class as a tropical night with Gosport recording the highest temperatures in the UK at 20.4 degrees."

Portsmouth News - the temperature is accurate that's for sure how accurate about being the UK warmest last night.. 🤷

I do find the phrase tropical night a little silly to be honest. Overnight lows in the UK of 20C or higher have always happened and for some locations like my own are far from rare events in heatwaves. 

In my opinion a tropical night would be something like 24C or higher and the cooler 20C for perhaps Continental night. 

Ross was still 30.0c at 8pm, so the record for Wales will probably be broken again tonight.
