Currently just 23.6C here with light rain. The Met Office are going to get an absolute roasting, even if none of the rest of us are. (The auto forecast still says 29C and sunny for the current hour, BTW!)

Plenty of 27s and 28s around even at 9AM!

The sun's been beating down here for a couple of hours and it's steamy like a jungle - literally steamy, as seen by steam rising from my wooden garden fence. 23.1, dew 22.1, and the pavements are all now dry, even the areas sheltered by my trees.

Sun has also arrived here. The temperature is going to have to rise rapidly if we are even going to reach 30, let alone 35!

No such bother in France where a couple of stations were at 36.5C by 11am local time.

6Z Arpege is out and gives a very small area of 35C in Berkshire today, a small patch of 37C in Sussex tomorrow, a tiny patch of 39C in north Wales (and 37C in Wiltshire and Somerset) on Thursday, and 37C in Norfolk on Friday.

6Z UKV has 35C today and 36C tomorrow (that's as far as it goes).

Could it rise 8c in 6 hrs? Possibly, it's probably in the sweet spot again. 

The same here and no rain yesterday either.

Very heavy rain here last night, accompanied by loud thunder, which caused flooding on some local roads.

It's nearly 11am and temperatures are already at 27°C, so there is IMO little chance of a record high here. It's currently partly cloudy with mainly hazy sunshine.

At this rate, however, I doubt we'll break 32°C today

26.2C here and the sky is at least clear now.

It is exceptionally warm in certain southern and western areas already today,more cloud and some showers in other places but it will become hot in those areas soon enough.

Moaning that certain models got it drastically wrong is a bit OTT.

Interesting stats from my 2 weather stations:

1. In Southern Burgundy: 36.6C at 12.30pm. It hit 40.0C yesterday and looks set to match or beat that today. Brutal. Glad I'm not there.

2. In East Kent at the vineyard. 29.5C at 11.30, despite 20mm of rain in the early morning. That's way higher than this time yesterday and almost up with the Wessex readings. It maxed at only 27.1C yesterday. 

Interesting - there was 20mm here as well, but with a gentle ENE'ly from the sea it's only 22.6 under very strong sunshine. The air is drying out too, with RH dropping from 97% 90 minutes ago to 88% now - albeit that's still a 20.5 dewpoint!

The MetO raw has 27C at noon and a high of 33C today. IF the wind keeps going, and I hope it does, even 30 will be a stretch.

30+ with an onshore breeze is almost unheard of here.

I was wondering where you actually got the actual latest up to date conditions at Swanston after previously thinking that I was getting that from other sites such as weathers.com, only to find that this wasn't actually the case. However, I have managed to find that live data at the weatherlink site which is really good because it automatically updates quite frequently as new data comes in, and it even tells you what type of station is being used there.

Meanwhile, I can say that the current temperature for there which you have mentioned is the highest for Edinburgh as far as I can see although the temperature at Edinburgh Airport is also around 24°C (its tarmac surfaces would probably make it a bit warmer there), but today is already the warmest day of this summer so far across my usual stations with a temperature of around 23°C although the temperatures at the botanic gardens is slightly pegged back to around 20°C.

Basically, it's just a day of some cloud cover here with some hazy sunshine at times.

We really need a few 32s at noon to have a chance of 35.7c though
