A very neat max today of 33.3c, feeling hot in the sun but not too bad in the shade, which was a surprise.

A sultry day here, dewpoints hovering around 20C all day long. It spared us from the heat further inland, but it'll be an uncomfortable night to come nonetheless. (It's 30C upstairs and that's with the windows open all day - with them closed it'd be in the mid 30s).

Clear, sunny, a gentle breeze from the NE. 24.6, dew 19.2. The high was 26.1.

Feeling humid as hell with a no wind and a stagnent sheet of  high based, smokey looking alto cumulus unmoving above, ensuring that little heat will escape once the sun goes down. Really can't wait for this summer to be over. Endless..

Today's maximum temperature at Edinburgh Gogarbank was 28.2°C which makes today our hottest day of this month so far and our second hottest day of this year so far.

In addition to that, that comes with a total of 9.2 hours of sunshine being recorded for today so far at Edinburgh and as the time of observation for that was at 5:40pm BST (16:40 UTC) this afternoon, it's still possible that today could go down as being our sunniest day of this month so far.

Although there's been a little bit of rain in recent times, it feels very much as though we have been going through a predominately dry, warm snd sunny period for what seems like an eternity and at the moment, it's just far too hot for me to be out and about, and far too hot for me in this little flat here in NW Edinburgh.

That is why I would be really grateful if this spell of weather could end as quickly as possible but for now, it's still a very hot 26°C here in Edinburgh even as late as around 8pm BST (19:00 UTC) this evening.

Clearly, it's going to be absolutely mobbed on that day as it always is but if the weather is too hot as well, that is just going to make that experience around 10 times worse.

After having been fine and sunny all day, low cloud and mist has just rolled in from the Channel.

The current temperature of 19.4 C at 9.30 pm is actually today's minimum. It reached a peak of 29.4 C at 1.40 pm IMBY, so I'm still yet to experience the first 30 C of the year.

Fog! First time I've seen that in a while... it's calm as well, of course.

16.0, dew 15.0, the overnight low so far is 15.9. Yesterday's high was 26.1.

(And the old saying, "mist in the hollow, hot day to follow" comes to mind - it's going to be unpleasant later.)

Today started off on a bright and sunny note here in Edinburgh but there is now a lot more in the way of cloud around.

I'm still convinced that the Sun will come out once again and that we will get another hot day but if it doesn't, that might well scupper our chances of possibly seeing our hottest day of the day and regardless of whether the Sun comes out or not, today is already not going to go down as being as sunny as yesterday.

Last night's overnight minimum temperature was 11.9°C which is cooler than what was forecast, and what I expected so that was a bit of a relief as this resulted in it not feeling as uncomfortable for sleeping overnight as I was expecting.

Currently around 14°C, so we have a very long way to go before it gets anything like as hot as it was yesterday as forecast, and we will need to get rid of that cloud cover if there is to be any chance of that actually happening.

Just been up the hill and it's sunny and 25 C already coming up to 11am

Way to the north I can see a thundercloud (CuNimb) Looking at the radar it's over Pitlochry with some lightning strikes

Edinburgh is in a Yellow warning area for thunderstorms both today and tomorrow

Much cooler than expected here, not that I'm complaining! It's been overcast for the past 3 hours and recently there have been a few spits and spots of rain. 22.7, dew 19.3, and the high so far is 23.4.

It's one of those days, though, where if the sun comes out for any great length of time the temperature will shoot up! I'm hoping it'll stay cloudy TBH.

Quite an active thunderstorm ongoing at the moment here. Frequent lightning and very loud thunder booms.

Totally unexpected and not in the met office written forecast.

Despite the forecasts, cool and cloudy all morning, not a glimpse of sun, and now with light rain. Why did they get it so wrong today?

Something strange about this.

The actual storm that was producing all of the lightning was very dry with just a few splats. It proceeded the torrential downpour.

Meanwhile here in Edinburgh, we still have plenty of hazy sunshine after that brief cloudier spell this morning, with only a few very small convective cumulus clouds starting to appear.

Currently around 27°C in general here in Edinburgh, but at Jerry's local station at Swanston the temperature has now reached 29.1°C with a temperature of 30.8°C even being recorded at Charterhall in the Scottish Borders.

Today is now our hottest day of this month so far with a temperature of 28.4°C at Edinburgh Gogarbank and this means that today has also taken over from yesterday as our second hottest day of this year so far.

As I write, the temperature only needs to rise by a further 0.5°C to give us our hottest day of this year so far but this also means that even if the hourly and ten minute readings don't rise any further during the course of today, there is still the chance that the official maximum temperature as given by the 18z raw BUFR/SYNOP could confirm that today is our hottest day of the year so far, anyway.

Swanston and Charterhall have both reached 31 C in fact Swanston has gone over 31 C which could be the hottest ever for that station

One or two big Cumulus clouds have been building to our NE too

This means that we will need to wait until the 18z raw BUFR/SYNOP data comes through before we will know whether or not today has been our hottest day of this year so far but regardless of that outcome, a 30+°C maximum for that particular station is very unlikely.

Furthermore, the temperature at the botanic gardens in Edinburgh has been no higher than around 23°C and the data from both the airport and Gogarbank suggests that this likely to be due to a local sea breeze from the ENE which has kept it a bit cooler close to the east coast.

That should be good news for the festival goers who as a result, aren't likely to be finding it as hot as they might otherwise have found it and in my little flat here in NW Edinburgh, I'm not finding it quite as stuffy as it was yesterday although even with that, it's still too hot for my liking anyway.
