A wonderful summer's day here, a reminder of how it used to be and how much we've lost in recent decades!

Early rain left a cloudy start, but then the clouds broke up and - along with a gentle breeze - the dewpoint dropped back to where it used to be, 13C or so for much of the day.

It's been a perfect day for doing stuff, and I'd set things up to take full advantage: I took my puppy to the woods a couple of miles away, I've been pruning the trees in the garden, and all without being seared or baked. It's only 22C indoors, so no need for a/c or windows open tonight... bliss!

It's currently 20.9, dew 12.3, with a high of 21.4. There was 9mm of rain overnight and into the morning, and the ground is still damp in shady spots.

What a shame that was a one-off - a much sunnier day tomorrow, then the heat and humidity returns.

Today's maximum temperature at Edinburgh Gogarbank is officially confirmed as 19.5°C, so we didn't quite get the first 20+°C maximum of the month for there today but we have ended up coming very close to achieving that and with the coming days being forecast to become warmer, I'm confident that we will achieve that possibly as early as tomorrow.

It's still windy here and although the Sun is still shining here, there's also some cloud around and even the odd very brief light passing shower which gave us a nice looking rainbow a short time ago.

Currently around 17°C here in Edinburgh

An average night following an average day - shame it takes a northerly flow to get that these days!

Bright, sunny, a light northerly breeze. 13.7, dew 10.9, the overnight low being 12.6. Yesterday's high was 21.4.

The night before last was quite cool with single figures temperatures but last night was even cooler with the temperature at Edinburgh Gogarbank dropping all the way down to just 7.8°C to give us our coolest night of this month so far.

However, this morning has started off on a bright and sunny note with barely a cloud to be seen, and the wind has also died down a bit.

A total of 12.8 hours of sunshine was recorded in the end for yesterday at Edinburgh Gogarbank but today's total may well beat that and I'm also looking forward to Edinburgh Gogarbank finally getting its first 20+°C maximum of this month at long last as that is now forecast to happen today after those chances were scuppered yesterday by there being too much wind around.

Currently around 12°C here in Edinburgh

Following on from John's earlier post, we have now reached 20 C in south Edinburgh for the first time this month.

It's a beautiful sunny day with some high cloud and less windy than recently

For Edinburgh Gogarbank though, we are tantalisingly close to that once again at 19.9°C but as I write, we just can't seem to get over that finishing line there at the moment although the actual confirmed maximum temperature for there should get us over that line later on when that is confirmed by the 18z raw BUFR data even if it doesn't actually get any warmer from now on.

In addition to that, there is some rather annoying medium to high level cloud around which is probably now going to put a little bit of a dampener on today's sunshine totals although it's still a nice enough day anyway and it's not as windy as yesterday

Amazing and sickening contrast in dewpoints between the isles this afternoon. Really feels clammy as hell out there.

Temperature at Edinburgh Gogarbank now up to 20.5°C, so we now finally have that first 20+°C maximum in the bag at all of the Edinburgh stations at long last but given that this is our warmest month of the year on average, that took rather a long time to actually happen.

For while at least in the coming days though, that now looks like something which we will getting used to every day from now on.

Today was supposed to be sunny right from the start and right until the end of the day according to the various forecasts.

For most of the day, that has actually panned out quite well with a lot of sunshine and only a little bit of medium to high cloud.

As a result, today's maximum temperature at Edinburgh Gogarbank was 21.5°C with a total of 11.3 hours of sunshine.

However, this evening has now become a lot cloudier with even a little bit of light rain and drizzle setting in, so what has been a nice day overall is ending on a disappointing note here which is not how the end of the day was meant to pan out here going by this morning's forecasts.

Currently, a fairly muggy 18°C here in Edinburgh

Last night was quite a lot warmer than of late with an overnight minimum temperature of 14.3°C at Edinburgh Gogarbank.

This morning has started off mostly cloudy though with only occasional sunny intervals at times and I was hoping that this morning might have ended up being much sunnier than it has actually turned out to be.

Currently around 16°C here in Edinburgh

The Sun has now come out a bit more here in Edinburgh, the temperature at the botanic gardens in Edinburgh is already up to 20.6°C as I write and we're only just coming up to midday.
