For once, some rain! A weakening line of showers dropped 2.6mm earlier today, a peak rate of only 5.8mm/hour, but very much appreciated. It's still warm and humid, mind, 17.6, dew 16.6, but in theory at least it should be another average temperature day today... with a chance of some downpours or even storms later (there's a yellow warning in place). Here's hoping for some more rain!

Last night's low was 16.9, yesterday's high was 22.6.

Is it really Sunday 6th August? I can't change the header title.

Here in Edinburgh, the Sun came out for a short period of time just a wee while ago (the Sun always comes out here at some point in the day at least these days) but it's been another mostly cloudy day with the odd light shower once again.

Pretty boring really because if it's going to rain, it would more interesting if it actually rained properly so that I can have an actual rainfall total to report on here, rather than this light drizzly stuff at times which delivers virtually nothing in the way of recorded rainfall, and which sometimes even barely dampens the ground in any way.

Even the temperatures aren't exactly exciting here just now. The minimum overnight temperature at Edinburgh Gogarbank was 12.6°C and as I write, it's around 17°C here in Edinburgh.

Here in Edinburgh, a band of heavier showers have arrived from the north.

The temperature is currently around 18°C but the wind has now swung around to the north, so it's clearly not going to get any warmer here today.

Even nowadays, those rain delays can still occur on the outside courts away from the Centre Court and Court No. 1 as these courts still don't have that type of system in place as far as I know, so I wouldn'tlike to sitting watching a match on one of those outside courts in those conditions.

Well that went down hill fast. From a sunny 25C to torrential downpour and a clap of thunder in less than 15 minutes.

The earlier rain has now cleared and the Sun is shining here in Edinburgh once again although there's still a lot of cloud around.

Today's maximum temperature at Edinburgh Gogarbank was 18.3°C.

Currently around 13°C here in Edinburgh

Very windy gusting between 35-40 mph from the NW. Mainly overcast with glimpses of blue sky. 14.4c at the moment, any light rain has been blown dry by the low humidity and wind strength.

There was a spell of rain at around midnight but that soon cleared away to leave us with a rather cool night with an overnight minimum temperature of just 9.3°C at Edinburgh Gogarbank.

This has now brought us into a bright and sunny start to today which we haven't actually seen for a while here. Although there hasn't actually been any completely sunless days at Edinburgh Gogarbank during this month so far, this month has started off on a dull note overall but it now looks as though all of that is about to change yet again, starting from today.

With that, there is an outside chance that we could see our first 20+°C maximum of this month. The icons on the Met Office forecast even suggest that this could happen, but that isn't supported by the text portion of that forecast, or by the BBC. Even if that doesn't happen today though, we should see our first 20+°C maximum of this month within the next day or so if the latest official forecasts are correct.

Currently around 14°C here in Edinburgh

I can now confirm that Edinburgh has just had its first 20+°C maximum of this month with a temperature of 20.0°C at the botanic gardens in Edinburgh as recorded at around 4pm BST (15:00 UTC) this afternoon.

However, the wind has suddenly picked up quite a lot which wasn't expected to happen on any forecasts that I had seen.

For other stations other than the botanic gardens, the highest temperatures as I write are 18.8°C at Edinburgh Gogarbank, 19°C at Edinburgh Airport and 18.9°C at Swanston (I am now remembering to go by the live info on Swanston's home page for that, and not by anything at weatherobs.com which might appear to be from that same site but probably isn't as seen by the inconsistency of the data between those two sources).

In addition to all of that, today is already easily our sunniest day of this month so far with a total of 7.1 hours of sunshine being recorded for today so far at Edinburgh Gogarbank as at 2:40pm BST (13:40 UTC) this afternoon albeit with a bit more cloud around now.

Currently around 19°C here in Edinburgh more generally but around 20°C at the botanic gardens in Edinburgh.
