1.6c here at the mo with a 0.7c DP (highest temp of the day). No sign of any rain, sleet or snow so thought this was a more appropriate thread!

We have thin cloud brought up from the system affecting the far South.

Still , temp is dropping quickly -3.0c now at 4pm.

Looks like quite a few places have had ice days in the North . Leeds/Bradford Airport, Liverpool Airport, Belfast, Shap, Stonyhurst , Thorncliffe  to name a few.

Max today (so far) of just -0.1c. If this holds it'll end up as an 'ice day'. Currently -0.4c and steady.

Today's maximum temperature at Edinburgh Gogarbank is confirmed as 2.1°C with a total of 4.6 hours of sunshine being recorded in the end.

However, the temperatures are dropping away a bit more tonight than has been the case on other recent night with an official air frost already being recorded at all three of my local stations.

Currently around -1°C here in Edinburgh in general but already down to -2.9°C at the botanic gardens in Edinburgh as I write.

Just been out for a short walk in my worst sort of weather of all - truly horrible freezing rain with the puddles mocking me as to what might have been.

I can only once recall feeling that frigid snowy kind of air with rain still actually falling - January 2017 just before a rain-snow transition. Snow has been reported at Capel, a few miles up the coast and 500-550 feet asl. But no sign of even any sleet yet down here at sea level. Obviously melting about 100m above my head atm. So at least the highest hills in East kent are getting somehting..

Another cold and frosty start to today here which in this instance, was also much colder than the previous night. Indeed, last night was our coldest night of the winter so far as the temperature at Edinburgh Gogarbank dropped to -5.8°C.

As the skies are also clear, today should also start on a bright and sunny note once the Sun comes up a bit later on.

Currently around -3°C here in Edinburgh generally, and still around -5°C at Edinburgh Airport.

Minus 0.9C. Frozen slush on car but not much anywhere else. I wonder what all the fuss was about yesterday.

Clear and crisp, again, -2c with a bit of breeze, frost not as thick as yesterday but still clouds on the southern horizon, so i wonder if they creep up and over like yesterday. Glad it's another sunny start though.

Another lovely morning, crisp, crackly snow from yesterday and no thaw yet, can't believe we've snow on the ground for three days in a row albeit a small amount, still great though this early in the year. Temps  at the moment -2.9C and DP-4. A slight northwesterly breeze and pressure 1008mb Funnily enough the coldest temperature I would have thought was sometime last night but it's just dropped to -3.1C.

-4.2c this morning having reached -5.7c overnight(which is about as low as it gets here without snow cover). We must have had a little freezing fog overnight as the trees are all coated in rime - they look lovely with sunshine and a clear blue sky. We still have a fair amount of snow in our garden and in parts of the wood behind(North facing and with a hill behind, our garden gets little direct sunlight at this time of year)but the snow is long gone everywhere else.

A lovely day here at last. Cold but blue skies and no wind chill, a day to get out. A bit wet on the ground after yesterday's rain but not quite an air frost so puddles not frozen. Min overnight 0.0C. Current temp 1.0C.

Rather soggy underfoot after early rain showers (4.6 mm since 12 am station reset) but at least it's quite sunny now. 2.4 C but no frost or ice observed despite a min of 1.4 C at 6.45 am.

Cold and crisp, but the ground is a marsh! Last night's plentiful rain and sleet hasn't soaked in much.

It's currently 2.4, dew 0.1, and as winds continue to die down tonight's going to be a cold one. Can it beat last year's overall low of -3.4? I'd expect so, and probably the -3.9 of 2023. The -4.8 of 2022 will be a tougher nut to crack, though, without any snow cover you're usually limited to -5 or -6 as the absolute low.

Meanwhile pennine areas such as Shap and Tan Hill are struggling to get above -5 a truly bitter cold and windy spell up there.

Lion Inn Blakey (N.Y.Moors) is at -2.3 and unlikely to get higher now.

Whatever local quirk with the air mass was going on on this side of town, it was a pretty significant one.

It's a lovely sunny day here, with the unusual sight (at least in recent years) of a negative dewpoint in the afternoon sun. 3.9, dew -0.1, and the relatively low 75% RH belies a very cold night to come. I'm hopeful of -4 or even -5 if winds stay light!

Today's high so far is also 3.9, which is 4 degrees below average.

A beautiful clear day but feels mighty cold. Garden thermometer in shade says 1C, but it feels colder. Topped up concentrated screen-wash in cars as there will be grit and filth on the roads when the thaw comes.
