However, the temperatures are dropping away a bit more tonight than has been the case on other recent night with an official air frost already being recorded at all three of my local stations.
Currently around -1°C here in Edinburgh in general but already down to -2.9°C at the botanic gardens in Edinburgh as I write.
I can only once recall feeling that frigid snowy kind of air with rain still actually falling - January 2017 just before a rain-snow transition. Snow has been reported at Capel, a few miles up the coast and 500-550 feet asl. But no sign of even any sleet yet down here at sea level. Obviously melting about 100m above my head atm. So at least the highest hills in East kent are getting somehting..

As the skies are also clear, today should also start on a bright and sunny note once the Sun comes up a bit later on.
Currently around -3°C here in Edinburgh generally, and still around -5°C at Edinburgh Airport.

A lovely day here at last. Cold but blue skies and no wind chill, a day to get out. A bit wet on the ground after yesterday's rain but not quite an air frost so puddles not frozen. Min overnight 0.0C. Current temp 1.0C.

It's currently 2.4, dew 0.1, and as winds continue to die down tonight's going to be a cold one. Can it beat last year's overall low of -3.4? I'd expect so, and probably the -3.9 of 2023. The -4.8 of 2022 will be a tougher nut to crack, though, without any snow cover you're usually limited to -5 or -6 as the absolute low.
Temps dropped quickly after the cloud cleared with a min of -2.1c at 9:44

Lion Inn Blakey (N.Y.Moors) is at -2.3 and unlikely to get higher now.
-4.2c this morning having reached -5.7c overnight(which is about as low as it gets here without snow cover). We must have had a little freezing fog overnight as the trees are all coated in rime - they look lovely with sunshine and a clear blue sky. We still have a fair amount of snow in our garden and in parts of the wood behind(North facing and with a hill behind, our garden gets little direct sunlight at this time of year)but the snow is long gone everywhere else.

Whatever local quirk with the air mass was going on on this side of town, it was a pretty significant one.
Today's high so far is also 3.9, which is 4 degrees below average.
