A toasty 6 C and still quite bright with hazy sun. Might put on the shorts and break out the garden chair.

There are clear skies here, but some cloud to the south - but even when it was briefly overcast here, it didn't go above 1.0.

That said, though it's a nominally northerly flow there's barely a puff of wind out there. And with clear skies and thick frost persisting on the lawn - all of the lawn, even the sunny bits - it's ideally primed for a very cold night again.

Here's a snap of the Wundermap just now.

UPDATE: It's now comfortably below freezing, -0.4, dew -1.2. The (melted) frost on the car from earlier has re-frozen and the lawn is still as white as it's been all day. The moon's shining down, the sun's still shining on the tree-tops... all very pleasant. A lovely winter's day.

Although the Sun is still shining here in Edinburgh as I write, the temperatures at the botanic gardens and at Swanston have already dropped back below freezing once again, so they weren't above freezing for long and I therefore expect Gogarbank and the airport to follow suit fairly shortly, especially once we get to sunset.

The result of all of this is that all of the frost in shaded areas has persisted all day and it's just a shame that winter will be effectively over by the beginning of next week according to the latest model output.

Looks like we had an ice day in St Albans. The low of -4.6C was reached between 7 and 8am. We enjoyed partly cloudy skies this morning but around midday the cloud band giving some precipitation in the south west moved over us to cover half of the sky. This seems to have been the perfect set up because it blocked the sun but didn't trap any residual "warmth".

Consequently the temperature stalled and maxed out at -0.1C. During the afternoon the cloud band moved south giving us a sunny end to the day with light winds and temperatures starting to tumble.

Currently it is -1.6C and the garden is a lovely frosty white.

If you have your own weather station and your thermometers are at a level which is lower than that, they will be more than likely to record lower readings under the current weather pattern as a result, thus making it more likely that they will continue to record sub-zero temperatures throughout today.

Yuk

Temperature slowly climbed through the day with a moderate SE breeze and a mixture of light rain and drizzle.

Currently it’s 7.2c. This is what the next two weeks are looking like add a few degrees…

It's now -3.5 C here at 16:50

Coldest night of the winter here at -3.4C. Surprised to see it was almost an ice day as well, getting above freezing for just an hour with max of  0.6C. Currently -1.4C at 17.20.

Here in Edinburgh, the temperatures are generally already down to around -3°C but rather remarkably, the temperature at Swanston is only down to -1.1°C as I write which is actually a whole 2°C warmer than what all of the other Edinburgh stations are recording just now, and not all that consistent for the area in general.

Now down to around -5°C here in Edinburgh but sadly, it's now clouded here and so that doesn't exactly bode well in terms of our chances of once again getting our coldest night of the winter so far.

However, a total of 5.2 hours of sunshine was recorded for today in the end at Edinburgh Gogarbank which makes today our sunniest day of the winter so far but this just resulted in today's maximum temperature at Edinburgh Gogarbank getting up to 2.7°C.

What the hell is going on this eve i live on the East Riding coast which has had no snow during this winter spell and to cap it all in the last hour the temp has gone up from -1.0deC to 1.2degC and instead of snow showers it's raining...!!! It was white over frosty an hour ago with supposedly a -2degC dewpoint temp and uppers of -5degC, this shouldn't be possible...not happy

With much cloudier overnight skies, the temperature here in Edinburgh rose all the way back up to freezing during the early hours of this morning.

The skies have now cleared once again with the temperature dropping back down below freezing and there is still some frost around but it's nowhere near as cold as it was at this time yesterday.

The official minimum temperature is still the same -6.8°C which was recorded for yesterday but that is only because this was a temperature which occurred at exactly bang on 9am GMT (09:00 UTC) yesterday morning when we went from one official observation day to the next, resulting in the same minimum temperature being recorded for both days.

Currently around -2°C here in Edinburgh.

It's a stunning winter morning here - the frost has become even heavier overnight, making it look for all the world like a dusting of snow. Skies are clear, there's no wind, and with dawn approaching the colours in the sky are wonderful. -1.4, dew -2.1, the overnight low was -3.0.

“Only” -5.8°C here in this part of the city currently but it was down to -9.7°C at the airport a while ago.

-6.2C here but its notable that higher up has not been much below -1 so as soon as any wind gets up it will rise rapidly.

Probably the last really severe frost here for now

Month mean now below zero.

A taste of what’s to come down here.. the temperature at 5pm yesterday was 7.2c at 11pm it was 7.1 and now it’s 7.2c under a damp monotone grey sky. Enjoy the bright crunchy crisp day before the damp duvet of despair getting drawn across the UK.

Another frost this morning with temps at -3.1c with a minimum of -3.9c at 00:15, DP -4c. Again not a breath of wind under a nice blue sky with patchy cloud. We still have snow and ice on the ground in north facing areas so a whole week with with white stuff on the ground in favoured places, almost unheard of in recent times this early in the year.

The air's clearer so there's been less rime on trees (still some), but the  lying snow is still pristine. Even where it's been walked or driven on, it's still white, which is unusual and down to the constant cold temps since the powdery fall on Thursday morning.

Another glorious clear frosty morning after new lowest minimum of winter of -4.3C at midnight and on and off through the night with transient warmings but -4.3C again at 8.30 am. Rising now to -1.0C in the strong sunshine. None of the forecast mist or fog this morning so won't be an ice day. If we can't have any snow at least this is what winter should be all about. Blue skies and deep frosts. 😃
