Starting to ease of now, The storm was no more than a strong gale here so nothing surprising, we've had worse this year.

Previously JimC. joined back then in 2009. Frome, N/E Somerset, 125mtrs asl.

If anything the wind has died right down and I'm not even anywhere near the centre of the low pressure system. However, it is rather dull with occasional rain where the 0.2 mm in past two hours seems a lot wetter than it is.

Just taken the dog for a quick walk and saw some large branches and a tree down partly blocking our road. Still very gusty but not as windy as overnight. It's the worst storm here since Eunice and it clearly justified the red warning. To emphasise how bad it was the local Marks and Spencer food hall did not open until 12pm!

No chance unfortunately, will be 5c throughout.

Was hoping earlier in the week that everything would align perfectly but it looks like higher ground of the Highlands only.

Storm Arwen in 2021 was a good one though , 4 inches of wet snow in about 2 hours as the low cleared.

A bit of a lull here, the half-way point as it were - winds are "only" in the 30s now and it's quiet by comparison! They'll gradually ramp up again into the evening, and I suspect whichever room I try to sleep in tonight will be noisy.

Yes thought we can today due to cold 5 with SW flow so turning to N should sent those temps to 0 or below.

Wind seriously gusting here now, widely into the 50s. The forecasts had this as about the time of the peak, IMBY.

As was predicted, it is mostly affecting Welsh coastal areas. Elsewhere mainly run of the mill winter gales of varying strength.

Edit: For those who are trying to read something else into this post. So not not a big storm in favoured areas !!

Orienteering event at Highdown Hill, Worthing, went ahead this morning, but conditions definitely unpleasant - light rain in gale force winds so not so much the temp (ca 7C) as windchill as the area is exposed and only patchily wooded.

I thought the worst had passed mid morning but unfortunately I was wrong. The wind is howling and the panels around the eaves are rising with the gusts. We have a telegraph pole at 30 degrees which is rocking badly.

It doesn’t help that we are very exposed to a NW wind. Only another 14 hours to go 😬

Winds are starting to pick up here again as the trees on the green have started to dance again and you can hear the roar starting to build between us and the neighbours as the wind funnels between our buildings. The clouds are really racing too as we go between lighter to much darker very rapidly.

This is the worst storm here in a few years - notable for it's longevity as much as the wind strength, and we've got a fair few hours yet (early hours tomorrow) before gusts get down to 'just' 50mph.

We're 10-15 miles inland. The coast of NW England has had even stronger winds than here.

And the SW is even more affected.

Tens of thousands without power, extensive damage to properties, at least one death so far, countless events big and small cancelled, sports events postponed.

But because certain people - in areas that were never forecast to get the more severe impacts - haven't found themselves not in Kansas anymore, it's dismissed as a nothing storm.
