Another eruption - this time Mount Semeru - Java.
"Indonesia's Mount Semeru volcano has erupted, sending ash billowing into the sky and sparking evacuations on the country's main island, Java. Authorities raised the volcano's warning status to the highest level, meaning its activity had escalated. No injuries have been reported but nearly 2,000 people were evacuated from the area around the volcano."

Volcanic eruption in Chile... 10 hours ago:
"Chilean officials have put a safety warning in place after a volcano sent an eruptive column 6,000m (almost 20,000ft) into the sky. Lascar volcano, which sits in the Andes, rumbled into action on Saturday, triggering minor earth tremors."

Research on the Tonga eruption last year.... Grauniad.
"Scientists have used eye and earwitnesses accounts, along with data from tide gauges, satellites, evidence of broken windows and other sources, to calculate that the eruption of the Hunga Tonga-Hunga Ha’apai volcano, which occurred on 15 January 2022 and was felt around the world, likely involved five blasts. The last of them released energy equivalent to about 15 megatonnes of TNT."

Katla has been grumbling a fair bit lately with the latest swarm overnight having close to 100 earthquakes. Probably nothing will happen but after another earlier swarm this week the Iceland Met did say quakes were above normal.

Last night 8 quakes above M3 with the largest being M4.4.

The 'magma intrusion', from the bits and pieces I have picked up anyway, is supposedly on par with the pre-2021 eruption in terms of volume, which is no guarantee that an similar sized eruption will be the result, but interesting times for sure. It seems something of a 'cycle' is going on.
